A good friend has a beat Logan Earth Ski with Hobie wheels... I looked it up on EvilBay to see if the value was high enough for him to get over his sentimental attachment to it... $35 wasn't enough. A guy I used to work with (Dave Richards) is good friends with Hosoi, back in the late 80's, Hosoi did a drawing for him and he scanned it and traced it with CorelDRAW and entered the contest that CorelDRAW used to have... it won an honorable mention. I saw Dave out in front of his house wobbling around in the street in front of his house on a skateboard, he's close to 50 now. There's my complete knowledge of everthing skateboard.
$40.00 and that's my final offer! Sweet! I swear I'm gonna find one one day. -stick I'm also looking for a day-glo orange Powell-Peralta Double center rail deck. I know they're out there.
I took pics of my ol' board this evening before the sun went down: I forgot that I never put grip tape on it - it came with the top painted with sand mixed in the paint!
Probably get scalded for this, but here goes. In the late 80's when my daughter was in the 5th or 6th grade I bought her a skateboard. A few weeks later she left it in the driveway and her mother drove over it, breaking it in half. I felt bad for her, but wanting her to learn to be responsible for her things, I told her I would help her rebuild it. A couple of days later we took it to the rodshop I was working in and this was the result. [/img][/img] A billet aluminum skateboard, perhaps a little heavy and clunky, but she cut it out on the bandsaw and trimmed it on the belt/circular sander herself. I gave it a brushed finish on a 10" scotchbrite wheel and we used her old trucks and bumpers. I found somewhere to buy new adhesive traction pads and she had a skateboard again. We figured it might just be Mom proof. It's been stored in the back of my garden shed since her high school days.
Here is a pic of my vintage boards... 1st is a Nash Rat Fink, steel wheels. 2nd is a Roller Derby, clay wheels. 3rd is a fiberglass X-caliber, Urethane (sp) wheels. 4th is a aluminum Holley Hi-Tail with wheels like the X.
My last board was a Steve Saiz, I wish I still had that. I used to have an XT Caballero that he signed when he came to my small town and skated. That was a dream come true to be from a crap town and have pros show up and skate a demo. All I have from those days are stickers and this patch that people in S.B. are always tryin to buy off me.
I wish I still had my old kendall deck. But I have a couple old stickers that I never stuck to anything.
This is my living room. Love the old boards. The Wooden one ALL THE WAY on the right end, was my dads. J Shaw
Statute of limititations ... has passed, its cool! Josh I gots a set of Super Surfer trucks and clay wheels that would look bitchen on that 6th from right deck .. PM me if intersted.
I wanted an Alva pig so badly back in the day, but never got one. My first skateboard still intrigues me because I've never seen another. It was made of clear plexiglass and had flames airbrushed on the bottom side This was the mid-late 70's, so I have no idea where my Mom got it. I've done several searches but never have seen anything close to looking like it. It didn't ride well, but it sure looked cool. Anybody know what it was?
I recently sold my two old ones About a year after I got my Alva he came out with a Dogtown design and I didn't want to buy one so I sanded the "alva" from the bottom and went to work.
i still have my kryptonics k- beam board from when i was 9 years old, tony alva bone wheels, german racing bearings, independant trucks my kids used while they were groing up still in really good shape, what an awesome pool/skate park board!
Still ride my Santa Cruz 36" with Gyro wheels and independant trucks that I was given by them back in '83... My history in skating goes back to about '75 when the first crop of 'thane wheels came out, and local pools were drained by the thousands because of drought.
Wow this does jog some memories. Ahhhh Rector shorts and Vans imported to UK, long days skating huge vert ramps. Homemade Lonnie Toft "Outrageous 8" board. Anyone remember that????? Ahhhh, brilliant days. We got skating late over here in UK but it was still a great scene, still is apparently, just wish i was still young enough and hadn't smacked the crap out of myself over the years skating and BMXing. Here's something funny for all you mature skaters that don't live in a uber cool setting. When i lived in Australia, i surfed,. Not brillaint but can get out back and happily ride a wave in.Board might have been about 30 foot long but i was okay. I also skated. It wasn't a big thing to see a guy in his mid 30's hitting the ramp at Bondi or bowl down in Maroubra. I've skated since the early 80's , half decent skater i'd like to think and i loved every minute of it. Main thing was in Oz no one gave a crap and happy to see an old fool carving it up old skool style. Ride a beach cruiser, so what. Again no one cares. Fast forward 3 years and i'm now living back in the UK, right in the middle of the place. Let's just say it isn't Bondi. Hadn't been on a board for a while and as we have a skatepark literally at the top of my street one night, for some bizarre reason, i thought i'd dig my old boards out. Alva deck, full tracks and OJ's and a G&S fibreflex with Phoenix's and 65mm Green Kryptonics. I watched the original Santa Cruz , wheels of fire vid online to get g'd up, waited until midnight, had a quick JD for courage, grabbed my Alva and hit the park. Now what you need to understand is that where i live it ain't no Venice Beach. In fact it couldn't be further from a beach if i tried and you never see any older guy skating. Plus at night even stray dogs wander around together for security!!! Thats all ok, man i used to run these streets as a kid, nothing to worry about here Yea, f**king right Anyhow i start getting into things, mainly small ramp stuff and really enjoying myself. Pleased i can still pull a few moves. Next thing i know there's a group of drunk hooded no-goods appear and start shouting shit. Next thing i know i'm being chased out the place They weren't local skaters just drunk idiots and lots of them. Having skated off into the dark at a huge rate of knots i'm homeward bound, belting down the pavement at a gazillion mile an hour and i clip the edge of a curb and face plant/hand slap the floor, big time. One chipped tooth, bleeding nose, twisted ankle, gravel rashed arms, torn NOS Big E levis and a sprained wrist. Got home looking like i had just done 10 rounds with Tyson, bleeding all over the place and still dealing with a lots of stars floating around my head. Mmm my skating days are over i feel. The following week i sold my boards to a local collector. It's the biggest mistake i've ever done. Don't get me wrong i got really good money for them that paid for a trip but i really wish i still had them. Skating and that time in my life when i was " a young rad dude" were the best. Did some crazy shit in those years. Now instead of ride a deck, i stripe and paint them as wall hangers. How sad The young rad dude has turned into a slightly chubby mid 40's gearhead that doesn't bounce the way he used to!! Great memories, great times and kind of sticks. I sold my small business and it was renamed but as a courier business i thought " Dogtown Delivery" had a certain ring to it
Was searching "Vintage Stickers" looking for some old racing stickers to buy for an Indy car restoration.. and this post popped up. Very cool...
I had a Lonnie Toft 8 wheeler and got to the point of being able to ride half pipes decent but not great.. It had Halftracks and Sims Snakes. I loaned it to a "friend" and two weeks later he brought it to me in two halves thinking he had done me a favor. EDDIE GONZALES I hope you read this.
Thats so cool someone remembers the "8". You know i haven't thought about my "Outrageous 8" for many, many years. I remember having to session the ramps when no one was around. I did manage to tame it slightly but it was a crazy thing to ride. I used to get skate mags from the US (nothing changes, just cars now) and i can clear as day see Lonnie Toft poking out the top of a pool, right on the tail. Me and a mate both carved a pool up on my copy, 2 up!!!!! Funny stuff and "No Fear" before that term was even thought up.
I went through alot of boards back in the mid 80s to early 90s.I worked at a skate shop at the time and did alot of riding. My kids are 5 and 7 so I'm getting the itch to see if the boy wants to ride.I would love to be able to ride like I use to!!!Just to many extra lbs now.LOL I have three decks left in the shed, I have a Fred Smith tri tail with Indys,a Vision Punk Skulls with Venture trucks I can't remember what the last one was.I wish I still had some of my mini Dog Towns not to mention alot of my other ones.My older bro has a killer Mickey Alba Krytonic with Gullwings and big green Krytonic wheels, also a wooden G&S board.Even though this is a old thread I'm glad I stummbled on it,it really jogs good memories!!!
Back in the early '80s, I used to ride my old Simms Nu-Wave with Tracker trucks and Gyro wheels. At that time, I was in the Air Force stationed in Georgia, and NOBODY rode skateboards in that part of the country back then. I also had a slammed Cal-Look Bug too, and I was looked upon with much disgust........
Much like my untimely move to St. Paul in '81... From weekly trips to the coast for bug events, street rod shows, and to skate board contests to no where... "Hey, we got tractor pulls!!!"
