Drafted in Sept. 1965 then enlisted for Army Security Agency. Spent a year in school then two years in Ethiopia, final year at Ft. Riley. ETS in Nov. 1969 and got into the car business.
Great memories of my time in Ethiopia and good friends. About twenty of us got back together after being apart for over 30 years. We have a little "reunion' every summer and offer support to those of us that need it. A GREAT bunch of guys.

Not me, but Dad was stationed in Germany in the late 60s, my lil' bro and sis-in-law were both stationed at Ft. Jackson, and are now in Germany.
1965-1966 signal corp. KY. GA. ARK. and a year and a half in Arizona.
Drafted US ARMY in 69. Reenlisted for Signal Corp (31J20-teletype repair). Spent 2 years at Coleman Barracks in Mannheim, Germany. Watched the castle burn in Hidleburg. Traved all over Europe on my 650 Triumph. Out in 72

Corporal Roberts (retd), Royal Electrical & Mechanical Engineers (REME), did 14 years starting in '89, the usual round robin of Tidworth, Gulf War Pt 1, Osnabruck, Crossmaglen (Northern Ireland), Episkopi (Cyprus), Hong Kong and finally Warminster. I was what the British Army (STILL the finest Army in the world!) called a VM(A)1, which means I fixed armoured vehicles mostly. been out a few years now, and miss it, well, miss the mates really.
Had the pleasure of working with the US Army a couple of times, and enjoyed mixing it up with your boys.
Hats off the the draftee's on here that did their stint, especially those who saw combat. Respect where it is due, from one ex-soldier to another.
BTW, thats my old regimental motto in my sig. The always told the tank crews it translated as "top it up, she'll motor"!!

I heard a story about a tankie in Viet Nam, sitting in his Centurion tank showing an Infantry mate around. Inside the turret there is a degree ring running around the diameter of the traversing gear. The 'Grunt, noticed it went up to 360*, he turned to his mate and asked,
'Whats it for?'
His mate replied,
'So we know where the guns pointing'
'Oh' replied the 'Grunt, 'What happens if you go past 360*?'
"The fucking turret unscrews and falls off you dumb prick' was the answer!

Went to basic between my junior and senior year in high school in 88. Ft Jackson S.C. AIT was Ft Lee W.V. Army reserves for 6 years. Never got called in for the first Desert Storm , that was over pretty quick.
First, let me thank each and every one of you for your service to our nation.
Let me add that the troops in RVN, drafted and volunteer, did a super job, period! The vets from that war built the great ground force we have today. I will never forget the great soldiers I served with as long as I live.

Great soldiers in every unit! I miss the troops and the tanks. Have dear friends from the army days, also lost some great friends.

Had a draft notice for May 6, enlisted Apr 30 for mechanic school. 63C20
Spent 25months stateside and went to Germany for the last 11 mo. Stationed 11 kilometers from my father-in-laws home town! Didn't find out til a couple of years later when wife and I got married.
National Guard, '89-'05, 54B Chemical Operations Specialist. Spent one month on flood duty in '93 when the Mississippi flooded the St. Louis area.
Always wished I had went active duty...

U.S. Army CH-47 67U20 ...the big egg beaters...Chu Lai [Hercules] 23rd infantry division...then Da Nang [Box Cars] 1st Aviation Brigade...70-71...any of you meat heads remember Dudley.....?....I still see them flying...I'm close to Bragg...its a sound like no other chopper....guess I've always been a gear head.....SUPPORT OUR TROOPS !!
Me To,, Dec 1968 to Sept 1971,,Pleiqu, Viet Nam,, Central Highlands July 1969 / July 1970.. Lots of great friends... The earlier post where a Nam visitor stated he was all-most back to normal,,, Hes a better man than me.. My wife claims I'm not the same guy that went there and she correct..Right now Agent Orange is kicking my butt..
