OK, so I am sure that many of you have seen the following video. But its incredible still. I never grow sick of watching it. There is something about the sound of a Ferrari V-12 that is simply awe inspiring.

For those of you who have not ever experienced this clip. Here is the link and a short bio on the film:

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=2851488008488190547&q=Claude+Lelouch%27s+Rendezvous&hl=en

On an August morning in 1978, French filmmaker Claude Lelouch mounted a gyro-stabilized camera to the bumper of a Ferrari 275 GTB and had a friend, a professional Formula 1 racer, drive at breakneck speed through the heart of Paris. The film was limited for technical reasons to 10 minutes; the course was from Porte Dauphine, through the Louvre, to the Basilica of Sacre Coeur.

No streets were closed, for Lelouch was unable to obtain a permit.

The driver completed the course in about 9 minutes, reaching nearly 140 MPH in some stretches. The footage reveals him running real red lights, nearly hitting real pedestrians, and driving the wrong way up real one-way streets.

Upon showing the film in public for the first time, Lelouch was arrested. He has never revealed the identity of the driver, and the film went underground until a DVD release a few years ago.

My brain can't react that fast, I cant imagine having to make all of the decisions needed not to front end a tree at 150 MPH. Impressive.

I LOVED it. That was great! I can't imagine the risks that they took to film that. Can you imagine the damage they would have done had they hit something? Thanks for the post!

13. I have that on DVD at home, I NEVER get tired of watching it, or of turning the sound waaayyyyy up. Has to be the best driving tour of Paris you'll ever get.....

Word is they made several attempts that were unsuccessful, requiring the car to come to a complete stop. When they finally were able to make the entire run without stopping, the film was done.

I saw this years ago and never get tired of it. If only it were in HD and in surround sound...

That was too cool. I really wish we knew who drove. I'll save that and look at it again, and again.

holy fuck!!!
That is hands down the best ccar video I've ever seen. Really insane considering he was doing this on cobblestones and just about every intersection he hit had a red light (not that he stopped!).
Thanks for sharing.

After seeing some of the cars with their right turn signals on and then moving to the right of the street, and the fact that in all of those red lites that he ran not one car came barreling thru the intersection, and the fact that the trip was at dusk (or very early morning) so no one could quite see what kind of car was coming at them, it is my contention that there had to be some sort of lights, like the flashing lites of a police car atop the Ferrari to warn those on the street of a fast moving car coming toward them...even the trash truk didn't move as the Ferrari went around it...watch it again and see what I mean.

Yeah I just watched the video again and I'm positive he had at *least* lights on the car, and I'm gonna say maybe even a siren as well. I couldn't tell from these online copies, but supposedly you can see the flashing light reflected in some windows or busstops. That also explains why the lady he almost runs over didn't totally freak out when she saw him coming.

If he had revealed this, it would have gotten him in trouble plus it would have ruined the charm of the video.

The vid is better when you think its a v-12 ferrari than when you find out its a 6.9L Mercedes with police lights and siren and dubbed in, at least I think.

That said, it's still cool as hell and I can't fault the guy for trying to stir up some mystery about his movie. That's what directors do, after all. They tell stories.

24. If that's real, they're all hairy Aholes for endangering ...

Thanks,
