Projects Not Another 41 Pickup Project!! (Update: 12/06)

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by hotrodA, Aug 7, 2020.

  1. Thanks, guys! Credit to Jim & Mike.
It's a pleasure to work with these guys. They're in to the project, and we seem to have a mind meld on what I want and their ability to carry it out.

The only difference between mild steel and stainless exhaust was the material costs. If you had the system coated it was a wash.
Mike does a lot of high end Alloway cars' custom exhaust, including headers, so it made sense to me.

May take some wheel centers I have and some hoops and fab up the wheels. Otherwise, it's Wheel Smith time.
    Or Torque Thrusts.

  3. Well, with Jim on vacation going to the ROC, in Mike's coupe,

Mike has had it by himself, with a couple of projects going.

He knocked out the shift detent on the stock column, thanks to some inspirational pics and instructions from OlScrounger on here.
    Thanks, Tim!!

The inner fender support yoke was going to be in the way of the Desoto's balancer, so Mike made up these inner fender support/radiator brackets.

Took the hood over to BSE Friday.
The radiator is mocked in place, just need to get some lower hose clearance past the front sway bar, which Jim got installed before he left for Willaroc.

Stay tooned, we're getting closer to blowing it all apart for powder and paint.

  5. Radiator in place.
Raised it up to center the fan.
Lowered the condenser to clear the hood latch.

  6. Went over to BSE today with some new Drake inner fender panels.

Jim was back, all rested from the ROC, and hard at work on the heap.
He had started stripping down the chassis to do the finish welding and go to powder coat Monday, along with the Bronco rear, front axle and bones.
    Gloss Black!

Decided to go with their (and Alloway’s) transmission guy. Saved some MAJOR bucks and he picked it up. Plus a year’s warranty!

Mike has a few holes to fill on the firewall, and a rot spot on the floor to patch.
Jim had made this nifty floor access cover for the master cylinder.
Rather than a flat plate, he broke a piece to match the floor ribs.
Details, even if they don’t show. That’s Barillaro.

Plus, I was pleasantly surprised to be UNDER BUDGET for what I had planned!
    I'll take that!

  9. Been a while, but they got the frame back today. Subtle in satin black.
Axles and bones will be gloss.

  12. As far as I know. They have pics of them as kids with their Dad running the car. Lots of cammer goodies from their Dad's, also.

A couple of pics when they had an open house tribute to their Dad. Had a mini cackle fest with both cars running on nitro.

I just put a set of old Americans up for sale - mag 15x10s and aluminum 15x6s, all 5 on 5 1/2".

  14. Thanks, Magfiend, but the rears won’t fit.

Probably pretty uncommon to have a 41 with a rear swaybar.

  19. ^^^^ Maybe so. Definitely light in the rear. Had it for my coupe project. If it handles weird, easy enough to pull it off.

I think the rear sway bar on your truck will work great. I had 2 '40 coupes with that setup and loved it . When I bought my '41 p/u it had no rear shocks; I installed a rear sway bar and shock kit with the buggy spring and it works great.

  21. Since I’m duplicating Bandit Billy’s truck to some degree I thought I would match his tag.
Rare 41 Tennessee “farm” use 1/2 ton truck tag.

  22. Slow progress with Thanksgiving week and waiting for trans rebuild. He showed up today so Jim set the engine and trans in place and hung the doors on the repaired door posts.
Looks like I'll be picking it up next week! Tons still to do here so stick around.

My sincere thanks to Jim and Mike for doing a great job and getting this project out of the pile of parts category and into the possibility of driving it while I’m still living!

  29. Another box checked. Jim picked up this black 350 dipstick from Lokar and mixed some brackets and voila',
    it bolts to the intake.
Thanks Bandit Billy for the tip!
