I think we will end up with a sleave inside of the hoops like Walt's picture earlier. The super short driveshaft has its difficulties.

Wayne brought fried chicken last night,

The fellas knocked out the dash cover, still has the vinyl cover on the aluminum.

And it was on to the front suspension, i had purchased some lever shocks for an MG but they prooved to heavy and bulky to work well, so I shelved them.

We cut and formed these braces to help the wishbones control the caster, there wont be a lot of stress on the without front brakes but still makes me feel better...
    20170425_193804.jpg

Then we cut up the basic pieces for some friction style shocks.
    20170425_193825.jpg

The insides were countersunk for rivets to attach the stiffner plates.

We made up some forming plates and bolted them all together and pressed them into shape in the horizontal press.
    20170425_195358.jpg 20170425_195537.jpg
Next up some tabs for the shocks and the frame side of the panhard rod.

    20170425_203600.jpg

Everything tack up. Not sure about the look of the wishbones, I'll walk by them for a week and see if they stick.

Mockup of the panhard rod with a scrap of conduit, it still needs some work to clear everything.

If anyone wants to come see it in person, we are having our yearly open house Saturday after the Dogwood car show.

Randy Q'd us up some burgers, and we knocked out a panhard rod on the lathe.

Neat little cars; wish I had something similar. BUT, that winners circle sign at Bremerton Raceway, I did build in around 1990. It was supposed to go on the power pole on the entry road, but some other members of the Handler's wanted it out on the main road. Looks like "Winners Circle" has been added, it's the same otherwise, and I'm really surprised my sign has lasted all these years. Long live Bremerton Raceway and the Handler's Racing Association.

Thanks, yeah Woodburn is coming at us FAST. trying to get everything on order that we think we will need for assembly. Called up the Antique Auto Ranch up in spokane and got the parts to tighten up the T axle, along with some advise on tightening up the drag link ball. I was just going to file the cap but he says the balls aren't really round and recommended cutting puks out of the side of plastic oil bottles to tighten it up......He said 15-40 works the best:p

Not a ton of progress last night as the powder coating didn't get done in time. We did get the rearend re mounted.
    20170516_182647.jpg

Then put the new rear brakes on and shucked up the wheels and tires.
    20170516_203220.jpg

Then cleaned up the 292 that is going into the car so I can give it a Crylon overhaul this week.

Anybody need a new dragster steering wheel?

I made up a template to drill one to our quick release just basically using it to locate the holes.

    20170523_094202.jpg

Then finished drilling them on the mill, and bolted it to the hub with some button heads.
    20170523_095023.jpg
The chassis parts are back from powder coat, so i run the spindles down to the machine shop and had the king pins I recieved from Antique Auto Ranch in Spokane fit. Here one is file fit to the axle.

Rob, That's a beautiful fuel tank ! Is that flip top cap going to pass tech ? My 2010 rule book requires a positive locking, screw on cap, on all open body cars. As I remember the rule changed after Herm Peterson's fire in 1973, maybe Roo will share his thoughts.

Looking real good! Can't wait to see it run at the Woodburn Oldies Race.

Let me know if you need anything on this end.

Yep! Has to be screw on. A few years back I did hide a small screw on under a flip top on a car that the customer wanted to look period correct.

I hate to find more work for you Rob, but a few pics back, I noticed the length of your rear lug studs, if you haven't replaced them, I would, before taking it to Woodburn.

Thanks for keeping an eye out for what we are missing, it is sure a lot easier to fix it here than at the track.

Stole Rooman's fix for the fuel cap, still need to decide how to handle venting, open to suggestions, not sure how anal they will be if it needs to have a check ball in it for roll over or if i can just drill a vent hole in it.

Straps still need tweaking and polishing, but you get the idea.

Ha, we will see. Step one, make it run. Step 2 will be to make it fast.... it still has a open rear end and a bone stock 292, the trans is about the only thing thats race ready. 12 seconds may be a streatch.

You'll need to add another fitting, but this works well for a roll over vent.

Well best layed plans I guess...... two weeks ago mice got into the rotary phase converter in my old mans machine shop and caught it on fire. So we have been switching gears wiring in the 3 phase sub panel and moving all of his machine tools down from Lenore to my shop. This was always the plan just didn't plan on doing it right now. Here is a picture of the room where we built most of the dragster in as it sits this morning. We have a nice old jet 12 x 36 lathe, a mill drill, surface grinder and a Lagun cnc knee mill for sale if anyone is interested.
    20170620_082154.jpg

I will still be coming over to woodburn this weekend but won't be bringing the dragster. Looking forward to seeing everyone.

Well doesn't reality suck sometimes. But, there's still plenty of opportunities to get the dragster out on the track yet this year.

Hope the fire didn't do any more damage than just the converter.

Looking forward to seeing you at Woodburn this weekend.
