I've been flipping through the various Speed Week threads looking for news of The HAMB's own North of 49 boys... anybody know if they made it through 200 this year? I've never even met the guys in person, but I've been following them via the inter-web for a few years, and I've been on edge all week waiting for news from the World's Fastest Beaver. Anybody been in contact with Digger Dave or any of them other nut jobs?

I think don ran about 5 times at 185 mph and then the older son was getting his license in it . i dont think it ever hit 200, we (hooley and the gang #974 was pitted right next to them , I even bought a north of 49 shirt from them ... great folks, and at 70+ he is hard to stay up with .............
From the BNI site: Number Engine Body Entry Name Qtr Mile1 Mile2 Mile3 Exit 1149 B STR N 49 Racing 197.570 200.236 183.262 183.181 190.215 Just over 200!
FINALLY!! - 201.722 !!! (they made TWO runs and the 201.722 MPH was buried in the first run; must have been pulling hard, that speed was in the second mile, the 200.236 MPH was during the second run) There was probably lots of cheering in the N of 49 camp last night! (Thur) Could also have been some "shaving" going on! - If your wondering what the "shaving" part is all about; our logo is a Canadian BEAVER. (thanks to our own Brush!) Someone started a saying, "GO 200 MPH and we'll "SHAVE the BEAVER!!" (I'll leave the rest to your imagination!) NOW ... if they can only "SQUEEEEZE" another 13 MPH today! Need that much to "topple" the old record; and get a "RED HAT!" (last chance - ends today - FRI.)
Yeah, I have been sitting on "pins and needles" here at home (doc said, "No go." this year.) NEW engine this year. And judging by the results of the day, it must have had some "BUGS" earlier in the week; until yesterday!
That's kinda what I thought when I read the results. Oh-oh...they must have broken something. Glad to see they fixed whatever the problem was. I hear ya about not being able to go. My problem isn't medical, it's the new career. I love the job but being junior means I won't get summer vacation time for another 4 or 5 years.
Hell, try to stay up with him when he's driving his '28 A flathead powered Roadster!! (he has been driving it to the SALT every year since 1998!!)
The problem they were having was traction. Wednesday Don told me they had some weights coming in from SLC. They must have helped.
Yeah, FINALLY!! (it reminds me of 2nd year, Don kept suggesting that maybe I could hide under the box cover for a run; ... to "lend some heft", so to speak!! )
All kinds .... check here >> http://www.1149.ca/ (and check under "CREW" for my ugly puss!) Damn, wish I could have been there this year!!
Who'd a thought... add Horse Power, go slower then add weight, go faster. Our new engine had us spinning wheels for the first few days. Then while in line for my B run we made some Salt Lake contacts that got us Six 6" by 1" by 3 foot plates that added near 400 pounds to the truck. next thing you know we're over 200 Our best pass was the last one, at about 11:00 Friday morning. Dad ran 202.149 a hair higher than Ted's 201.722 pass the previous day. We also ditched the hood scoop for that last run. We all like the look of the truck better now! Thanks to Max Gearhead for sending me the HAMB sticker at Christmas. I stuck it on a bit crooked, but I'm sure it helped propel us over that magical 200. We'll be bringing the truck out at the Bowness Auto Show-n-shine Sunday August 27 and again for the Calgary Tattoo and Arts Festival on September 2-4 If we can keep it dry enough it should still have salt on it. Mike
Great run guys and it was nice to pit next to you. I'll be so happy if I can see a 200+ timing slip someday and I'm a lot more aero than you are. You guys have accomplished a lot. Now get after the other 10-12 mph you need. Hope you guys make it down to my place next year. If you do start getting in shape, except of course Don he is ready to go!!!! "Spin the tires, add weight -- Not spinning the tires, add nitro" c ya, Sum
Sum We've already started talking about pre Bonneville hiking. My brother wants to bring his girls down your way real bad. When helping us drill mounting holes for the plates we added, Tom Burkland said "If it doesn't weight 4000 lbs it's just going to blow right off the salt" Mike
