About 2 and a half years ago I was introduced to the HAMB and one of the first cars I saw here was the Rolf coupe. I knew this was the place to be! LOL I had not had a car for a few years because life got in the way, and I had been thinking about building another car and wasn't sure what to build. After studying several A coupes here I began to really like them and just then I heard about an auction of old cars near me. So I went to the auction and came home with a 30 A coupe! Now after 2 and a half years I am starting on it!
Going to try to build a fenderless highboy style like Tindall, or Grits, or Rolf did. My 10 year old daughter is teaching me how to post pics on the HAMB and sometimes she runs out of patience with me, so, please you guys be patient with this struggling HAMB user. Still haven't figured out how to make the pics show full size without clicking on them first.
Looks like a pretty solid body to start with. Wish I would have been at the auction where you picked it up at. I look foward to following your build.
It is pretty straight, just some small dents here and there, and some rust along the bottom so I guess I'm lucky. Lots of guys start out with worse.
Sweeeeeet Meat , i'll be staying with your build . Good Luck & tell your girl to keep us posted......
SamIyam did a thread a while back on how to loosen stuck screws with this home made tool and it works very well!
great looking project Norm, looking forward to watching your progress. I started with worse...and still have worse
I did some welding on the corner angle iron and I also welded up some cracks in the roof. It's surprising how much stiffer it is already! Fixed some stripped threads yesterday. I got a tank just in time for Christmas! You can see my computer expert learning to weld!
Your coupe is in way better shape than mine... I'm just gettin' started also... It look's like you've got a good start and some good help there...
I've got it in mind to use a 32 frame, seems to be a popular thing to do. I know some guys think a 32 tank on an A is like a duck dragging its butt but I'm going to give it a try.
Norm, what a great starting point...i have to agree with 29jay in that my coupe was also way worse and there seems to be no end to the need for patch panels. Good luck with the build. I will be following your progress, when i'm not blowing holes through thin metal. outlaw
I have 4 patch panels, one for each corner and they sure don't fit real well. Going to take some work to fit them.
Note to self, do not run DA near glass you need for pattern. spent the afternoon making small dents into smaller dents.
I love it! I just dug into my '30 A project, and you have a lot more to work with than I've got. I'm glad to see your daughter working with you. I've got 4 girls myself, and once in a while they come into the shop with me. I'm hoping one or two will take a liking to rod building.
Thanks for the nice words guys, Mr Tindall, you have a really killer car. I have studied every picture in your build and you have taught me much, thanks. Breeder, my daughter and I love your avatar, and I like reading your posts. I'm hoping for a lot of input from people, as I have pretty much never touched a model A before, and have lots to learn.
Only let her read my threads before noon! Lol Stole the avatar off of a buddy yrs ago! To funny not to use! Good luck on your build homie! Todd
