long time owner and business with lots of history. worth checking this sale out, which includes a well known very custom '40 Ford pick up. Also, rain or shine car show this coming weekend. 20250310_191140.jpg 20250310_191530.jpg need to call and let him know if you will be going.

That pickup has been for sale for a while unless there is another one that looks seriously like it.

Is this just a sale, or an auction?

Pete Paulsen Wheels... I think I recall seeing his ad in Rod & Custom quite a few years ago?
Haven't heard that name in a long time.

  14. @Jalopy Joker please take some pics. You know for historical ref.
Also wish I was closer I would check them out looking for 14" chrome reverse ford rear wheels with Buick style hoops. Long shot. I'll eventually have some made.

The problem with the "Great history" is that you can't even repaint it or you catch crap from all the guys who say you destroyed it's originality. Rigs like that that are well known and connected to the owner builder can be a very hard sell unless they have high collector car fame and value. You could buy it and do nothing more than put a 20K candy apple red paint job on it that was done to absolute best paint perfection and people would gripe.

^^ true for average buyer. but, for true collectors or museum would not change it.

The other and probably the main issue with selling that truck is that it is so associated with him that where you take it it always will be Pete Paulson's old truck and never your truck. That makes it a very hard sell in all of California and most of the west coast. Museum value is great and even for the guy with a collection it is good but for the guy who is only going to have one rod or custom that he takes to shows every so often it can bug the hell out of you because it is never your truck it is always his old truck. I think that is why the guy who bought my 51 Merc in a basket and put a crap ton of money in it didn't take it to many events and it sat in it's climate controlled garage for years. Every time he took it to a show even though it had great paint and the overall look wasn't close to when I drove it it has some of the same distinctive mods that I did on it that were easily spotted. I think he got hearing that it was Robs old Merc even if he got compliments on what he did to it although it is OT for here.
My buddy had a 48 Olds Ragtop that he build back in the 80's and drove for several years and sold and had a hell of a time selling it locally because it was so related to him. Women would fall in love with it but when their husbands saw it they knew it would always be his old car. He drove it to Colorado for a NSRA event and sold it for full asking price and I think it went to Arizona. In Colorado it was a car that no one had seen before and outside of the PNW it had no connection back to him.

Pete says that he will still do some special wheel orders for now. but, everything takes longer . will keep selling wheels while he is able to. not getting any younger. his son is having surgery soon, so does not have help like he used to. give him a call and see what he says about any wheel orders.
