    This from Fox News today...

As General Motors seeks to take advantage of overseas markets, the iconic “Chevy” nickname is being kicked to the curb, the Detroit Free Press reported Thursday.
Employees have been asked not to use the term "Chevy," and instead use "Chevrolet."
Chevrolet officials denied that the re-branding effort was the result of hiring a new advertising agency, but rather a move to maintain consistency across the 130 companies with which it does business, according to the paper.
“As we now think globally, there’s really an opportunity to drive consistency in our communications,” Alan Batey, U.S. vice president for Chevrolet sales, told the Free Press.
Responding to the reaction the news received, Chevrolet asserted that it was not trying to stop the public from using the nickname, issuing a statement that reads: "We love Chevy. In no way are we discouraging customers or fans from using the name. We deeply appreciate the emotional connections that millions of people have for Chevrolet and its products."
Well-known models include the Camaro, Impala, and Corvette.
Chevrolet was named for one of its Swiss founders, Louis Chevrolet.

For a second there, I thought they were going to stop producing Chevrolet's.

  4. Personally, I thought that when Chevrolet started using the "Chevy" nickname I thought that they classed their company down. I like the nickname but as a company or large corporation I think it was a bad choice. It's like all of America wants to become casual. Chevrolet followed.

    I'm happy about their decision.

In the 70s when they produced the "CHEVY VAN"......said CHEVY right on the side of it.

So corporate cant call it a Chevy,....its OK the rest of the world will.

I am loyal to Chevrolet but only the real "Chevies" from the early 70s and back with the exception of the 80s Monte Carlo SS and Corvettes. New "Chevies" are not real "Chevies". Same goes for FoMoCo and Mopar. Heck not even Bud isn't "American" anymore.

This goes to show why GM has so many problems. Surely they can find things far more important to worry about.

Interesting. I have a Chevrolet dealership parts catalog from 1972. In the those catalogs Novas were not referred to by name but as Chevy's.

They hired a good marketing firm, that is the quickest way to get people talking about chevrolet is to announce that they will not allow us to call them chevy.

Oh, wait, you all can call it a chevy, we just can't.

Something that could have been kept as an internal memo now turns into the telephone game to the mass majority of people who aren't car crazy like us.

"Hey did you here they ain't makin' chevies no more?"

This is coming from an individual who refuses to wear a decent pair of shoes to his own wedding. And if he does wear shoes he "classes" it up by wearing blue jeans with 8" cuffs and an Iron Lords Shirt while he's visiting the Louvre.

Nothing say good old American Iron like a French name. Dumb. Chevrolet Corvette....dumb. Chevrolet Cobalt....dumb. Chevrolet Traverse??? Ahhh now we're on to something. That's got class out the ass!

Oh wasting three minutes of my time on this thread.....dumb.
