Another Jr. Stocker passes away. I received word this morning from a good friend and Jr. stocker racer that our good friend George Vogelsberger passed away last week. I never met George but my friends always mentioned him and what a good guy he was. I happened to mention his car and name on this thread and before long he was on here posting pictures and writing about the good old days. We became friends and I connected him with his and my friend Wayne Jr. Hopkins, they finally spoke at length after 30 years. Wayne was the one to inform me of Georges passing.

I have met some great people here on the Hamb and like to believe we have become friends. George was one of those people. Some I have met in person at the Rhinebeck swap meet where I have a big vendor space and others at the races or shows. I have met people from all over the USA and Europe, I am grateful for these friendships and it makes my world a better place.
RIP George, we will meet someday.

For the longest time I heard of a yellow 59 Chevy with a Jenkins motor in the area and my friends from different pasts would talk about them. What are the chances there would be 2 of them, here finally on the same page. Mystery solved. Georges car is no longer.

I don't know for sure that it has been "recycled" ... the person that it was "last" sold to had it in and behind his garage for years... I have my "detective" attempting to find out. Those things take time but there is a good chance it is NO more... If I find out for sure I will update. Part of its undoing, undoubtedly. is the sandblasting and scraping that removed everything that would insure it would not rust to death.

That would be Marsh "and" Brock's Ohio based car running M/SA and holding the record before it went to Phil Cooper who raced it in SS/QA and was later sold to Jeff and Karen Gaines. Engine builder Tom Ellison passed away in 2012.

One of the reasons many of the old Junior Stock racecars no longer survive is because as they were being set up for Jr. Stock they were stripped of the stuff that the factory put on the bodies to preserve them against the everyday elements. All the undercoating and dumdum was removed in order to lighten the bodies. When the old Jr Stock body got shoved out back without its engine and racing parts, mother nature took over with her moisture and soon rust began to eat away on everything. Granted there were some of the more desirable body styles that were saved and returned to the street. Other desirable body styles found their way into S/S and even some of the Super category classes. However the majority of the other outcast body styles such as 4dr and station wagon bodies met their fate by simply being an old racecar body no longer wanted by anyone.

LB that 65 GTO is George Wunch sp. he was my friend, Charlie VanWinkle's cousin, who also had a 65 tri power GTO but street driven. This was on LI when I lived in Syosset.

Because it seems like a lot of 55-57 Chevy's on this thread. I am going to ask this here. A buddy has a rough '56 sedan delivery for sale. Another friend has some pretty nice '55 sheet metal I can get cheap. Can you make a '55 out of a '56, even if it only looks like it from the outside??

The front end will fit. Some grafting involved with the taillights.

The front sheetmetal fits as was said, the rockers don't match though.

Maybe next to allowing any cam duration and overlap plus any pressure valve springs in 1986. Plus getting rid of Jr. Stockers in 1972 !
