At 22 I'd say it's about time. My youngest was just a little younger for that lesson. He managed to find reverse (floor shift converted 3 spd) at about 30 MPH. Jeez did those back tires complain. To his credit he slammed the clutch back in right away and no drive train parts flew out.
He was muscling the stick too much, didn't let it pop over into the 2-3 gate on the way out of 1st.

Put a 406 in it and it would be a great sleeper! Nice score

  9. I think it looks like a great cruiser, the 223 will suffice for that. I would just clean it up, go through the brakes, engine mechanicals, tune-up, new tires, and then have fun. What's with the seat patches? glued on?

I like your idea of it being a tow vehicle. Those two cars are gonna be a flash to the past, and will turn some heads.

Looks good. I agree it needs a tri-carb 406 in it.
Another thing I'd suggest is a two bowl master cylinder.

Futura63 your '61 looks a lot like the one I owned several years ago, only my '61 was a 223/auto. What a dog with that 2 speed automatic. My '60 Fairlane is a 223/3-speed and while never a power house made for a decent driver for several years. I once flat towed a friends '64 Galaxie with my sixty, so as long as the load isn't too heavy you will probably be able to tow the midget, or Falcon, without too much trouble. Most likely has 3.56:1 rear gears and no 1st gear synchronizer. I now have a 303 from a '64 Galaxie that had a 223 in my sixty. Good luck and have fun.

  26. One of my favorite Fords... nice ride. Got a new tank for my '59 as well. Old one, the brass float turned to dust when I took it out.
