just bought a 1955 Chevy truck looking to make it a gasser, where do I start? Where do you get straight axles with disc brakes?

  3. Start with a new idea. '55 Chevy trucks are really cool pick ups. They weren't gassers. Want to look racy? Build a push truck. This is a fun hobby. But, do it right. Find out what the gas classes were. It was a real racing class. People who will say that a gasser is whatever you want to say it is, are wrong. It was recorded history. Please, don't make another dorkmobile phony "gasser". The guys who MADE that history are still alive, many of them anyway. Don't insult them by claiming to being Inspired by them.

Start by figuring out what engine you want to run. Build it and get an idea of the HP and torque as it will govern much on how you build the truck.
then figure out the trans that will handle the HP.
One you know what you will be running you can start looking at the truck. Start with the chassis - you more than likely will need to strengthen it up to handle the extra power. Work your way from the back to the front. Diff and suspension etc

I like the idea of the pusher truck.
