Oooh me, I have. Bob, what do you know about Record heads? Someone wrote an article (A guy in Sweden maybe?) a while ago in Secrets of Speed but it was mostly just technical info...do you know anything about Record's history? I have heard it might have been related in some way to Harry Ricardo. Do you know where and when they were made?

Can someone tell me when the improved Cragar head came around? Also, what other crossflow heads have been produced for 'bangers? Thanks.

I would like some more information on this water pump. I'm currently running a freshly rebuilt stock banger motor but have been collecting parts to give it a little more go. Zephyer dual intake, 81 carbs, "C" head with NOS water pump and vintage dual point mallory distrib.

4Port on here has tons of cool banger stuff.

The waterpump is the only thing I can't see well in the pic--is it a three-bolt one on a plate adapting it to an A flange, with its own water outlet, same overall length as Model a???
If so, it is a 1932 B pump, and uses same innards as A Except for the impeller. You can transfer the impeller to a replacement A part and use all other A rebuild stuff if you need parts. Sacramento may even make the impeller now.

I'm familiar with the three bolt B pump. I've got a new old stock one and it looks very similar to the A pump but different 3 hole flange.

The water pump on that motor looks like it's a water pump neck with a fan pully and shaft welded onto the bottom of the neck. Is this home built? It seems that the axis where the fan is does not interset the block, and therefore no impeller inside the motor moving the water. Anyone else notice this unusual looking pump?

Welcome to the HAMB! First thing you need to do is sell me the aluminum oil pan on that block or another if you have one.:D Both my grandparents came from Sweden, so it will have a good home here. Best wishes with your project.Bob

i went to an old man seeking clutch help for the death metal 29.we ran into a snafu with the machining of the flywheel, and it gave us a crap clutch adjustment.he directed me to a gent in the middle of the ghetto, about 20 minutes from me.when i got there i went through a crummy alley, through a cyclone fence and into flatty heaven!!! first thing i saw was a rajo T head, then built flatty v-8's,riley overheads,oh man it was too much!!he was kinda stand-offish,although very helpful.when i showed him pics of the 29,he opened up and started showing me all kinds of cool stuff, like a no-name cast aluminum A-head with handmade harley-davidson combustion chambers, cool tips for timing, mag setups, and finally fully machined A motors.he makes counterweighted cranks, does full pressure oiling, inserts, chevy rods, and porting and valves...all in-house! his motors are sick! so next week i'm dropping off a crank and block, and we'll do as much as i can afford, when i can afford it.maybe by next year,i'll have a really good motor, you never know where or when you'll find these guys,i've ran into a lot of older guys that have the knowledge, but they're total PRICKS..it's nice to meet some really good people who do some really cool stuff,i learned more in 20 minutes there than i have all year elsewhere! p.s. stay tuned for a full post on the 29-cheers-nate

Tin--when you get the photo thing sorted out, how about some tech on adapting the late box to torque tube? I know this is done commercially...

  13. I have a stock Model A and a banger powered T that is in the works!

FWIW, I'm looking for a Model A to v8 Ford tranny adaptor. I'd like to find an original one, not a re-pop. Anyone have anything?

I'd show pics... but I don't have any recent ones of the Model A...

I suspect old ones don't exist--I've been pretty aware of adaptors out there since the early 1960's, and I think the recent ones are it.
The olde way: convertit to B parts (requires welding in a section of A pan at rear main, I think), use B trans, case is same as V8 and takes same range of gears.

  15. I had seen one at Turlock a couple years ago... but figgered "I'll get the next one I see"...

The guy wanted $100 for it, and I was (and still am) a little ways off from needing it.

It "looked" old... but maybe it was just a seasoned new one...

Anywho, I'll probably just get a new one when I need it. I was trying to go with ALL old parts. I have intake, head and a mag that are OLD... '23 T roadster, NOS turtle deck, A frame, '36 rear end, v860 axle... I'll pain't a big ol' # 6 on the door and write in little letters below it "Wait 'till you see #7" (hahaha... not really)... but I have been saving parts for a while, and as soon as I get the '55 done, it'll come out of the rafters and I can flog on it.

My stocker has a neat story... It was the car my dad built when I was 3... i rode in it until I could drive... rode to Kansas from CA in the rumble seat in it when I was 8... my dad sold it 15 years ago, then I saw it on e-bay for sale... I was going to bid on it, then the guy sold it early... THEN Boones and I traked him down, and I called him. 6 months later, he calls me and says he'll sell it to me. I paid out the nose for it, but I have it. And it is like a time warp... same paint, same interior that my mom and dad stitched up... way cool.

    That's me in the back

This is it about two months ago... in my driveway... I already replaced the LAME ASS whitewalls with blackwalls... and got rid of the LAME ASS spoke covers and grill guard...

I had to sell this one (which was my grandpas car before I butchered it)... to buy it. That is a half-ass smile on my face... as I'm minutes away from saying goodbuy to my car that had been in the family for 32 years... but the yellow one was in my family before that, and the one I remember as a kid... so it's all good.

  16. Cool story.

Not many people have to choose between two long time family owned cars.

  17. Just wanted to join in here and say that this thread, and some of the other banger threads have proven to be very informative to me, and has answered quite a few questions about how these cool motors work. Add me to the list of the banger fans. I've got a model i'm building with a nicely detailed 4 banger and I was looking for some info on the old dohc heads and such and this really helped....maybe one day once my daugter is older and I make a little bit more cash i'll be able to have a real 4 banger rod to roll around it.

    Thanks!

  18. It was a tough descision to make... but it boiled down to: I can always build another hot rod model A the way I want one built... but there is only one Model A that I rode around in as a kid, and it is EXACTLY the same (now) as it was back then... paint chips and all... and that is patina that can't be re-created no matter how hard you try.

My brother John came by with my mom when I got it. My had tears in her eyes, and my brother was saying stuff like "I remember when I put that scratch in it and dad yelled at me!"

I still have to pinch myself.

Add to that the survivor '55 Drag car I own that I remember from my youth... and I am a fortunate man.

    Sam.

  19. ... I do have to say that it kinda sucks that I didn't even have 100 miles on the freshen up of my hot rod coupe... I just had the Halibrands narrowed by Eric Vaughn, built a new Currie 9"... and finally got it sitting right and driving BETTER with the radials that didn't rub... in a perfect world, I could have kept it. But the $$ was too much.
