Me too, early rods (late 20s/early 40s) and pickups, up to about the 60s era builds, I like some 50s cars, and after that I'm a Truck guy (big rigs).

But I have a big amount of respect for the craftsmanship going in to these builds!

20160607_172015.jpg Section is coming along nicely. Still tons of hammering and dollying to do...

  3. Looks great how are able to get the dolly behind the seam for the hammer and dolly work?

Interior is gutted. Cut out rear door insides and wheel wells. The body is really small now, so it's pretty easy to reach in with dolly.

20160607_172023.jpg Also had to do a lot of relief cuts to keep the round shape on the sides nice.

Welcome to the HAMB. I am not a big fan of Customs but this one is cool. Looks great! So much work in sectioning a car! Subscribed!!

  11. This may be your first Section Job but it's clear your no stranger to metal work. Well done. If you were close by I'd put a Tig Torch in your hands. You'd be amazed at how much less finish work is involved. Very impressive my friend.

I was thinking the same thing, isn't a TIG bead less likely to crack than a MIG bead? Bob

20160609_164251.jpg Took the skirts off to get ready to mount the bumper, and make hammering and dollying easier. Also cut out the supports in the trunk. Lets see if the trunk still fits... I can't wait to see it back on the ground!

Wow!!Never even thought about sectioning anything in my life, but You've got some mad skills to make it look as easy as You do! -Seeing how You're not gonna
use the original taillights, how about the '59 Chevy -units hanging on the wall, turned upright?Seeing how You're already well on Your way to finishing something wild&definitely different-from-the-norm, anyway?..

Thanks! Actually that's why I bought the 59 lights... To make crazy fins on the 54... But after I started the section, the body in the rear is 20 inches tall. Those 59 lights are way too big! I'm going to be using 56 bel air lights. Even those are too big.

Yup. When i stand next to the taillight area, the top of the quarters go to my knee... And that's on Jack stands.

So if a guy in a Ford GT40 pulls up along side, you have to look up to see him? That is a whole different level of cool. Bob

    Wow!!That's wild
Those taillights on the wall reminded me of a mid-sixties build of a custom '55 Chevy convertible still running around somewhere in Sweden where they did just that, 59 Chevy cateyes turned upright. I need to find a photo of it.
In the meantime, look up a thread about a "Buick barn-find and build" on here by a gentleman named "Iroc100", I think. He used '55 Plymouth taillights on his Buick, looks somewhat similar in perimeter to those on the '56 Chevy, somewhat shorter though. Might work well on Your car. Food for thought, anyway.
Good luck, keep up the good work.

I'd really like to see pictures of that car! That's exactly how I planned to do them! And I'll try to find the other build. Thank you!

Oh shit! I was kinda worried when I first opened this thread up. Just goes to show you don't judge a book by its cover. Nice metalwork and I admire your balls to dive into this as hard as you have. I have a feeling this is going to be a sweet ride. Just try to keep the less is more theory going when it comes to your front and rear end treatments. Don't let the stuff end up looking like it was just thrown on there. You have done a nice job of keeping the lines flowing. You seem to have it nailed down pretty good so far.
