Hey guys, I just loaded seven photos of my DREAM TRUCK before any work on her is started. I'm 60, and back in the late fifties to early sixties I would dream of one day having my own hot rod pickup truck. Till now, I have owned a 66 G.T.O., and, while I was stationed in Germany, (NO SPEED LIMITS on the Autobahn), I had a 1965 2+2 Fastback Mustang with the 271 horse motor, and "Pony" interior. I then built it up to a 325 horse motor, and a BUNCH of suspension mods. I would TROLL the fast lane of the Autobahn at "only" 95MPH, waiting for a Porsche to come up behind me and flash his lights. Take it down a gear, and leave a PAIR of twenty foot long black streaks on the concrete, race is ON!! But I still NEVER got that itch for a classic looking Hot Rod Pickup scratched. A year ago, A good friend, and fellow Army vet of mine, offered to sell me a 1959 F-100 that he had sitting at his Towing company lot for twenty years. I jumped on it, resigning myself to WAIT till I finished building the house, four "T" hangers, and three car garage, before starting a frame up restoration project. Everything except one hanger is done, and it will be finished by July, so I am getting ready to start the truck. When it is finished, it will have it's 292 built up to as close to a 312 Special as I can get it, right down to the three deuce carbs, and chrome T-Bird air cleaner. It will have twin stacks for an exhaust system, an oak bed, early sixties style mags, a trditional flame paint job, and twin bucket seats, and Diamond Tuck interior. At my age, (and the fact that I still fly aerobatics), I may be racing the undertaker on this one, but I think that I will still WIN this last race. Give me your thoughts and advice folks, I will sure 'Priciate it, THANKS. Brie
They are in her profile. Looks good to me Brie! I saw that same dash cluster in someones coupe and was curious where they found it. Oh, by the way...I have my money on you concerning that race lol!
They are in an Album titled "Brie's Album", I think there are seven of them. Take a look at the one of the round radio in the dash, was that original equipment? It looks like it was, was it an option? Brie
That radio was stock in a 55 Ford car, I thought the radio fot that year was not round. I'm sure someone here will be more definite. You could also check a slick trucks site.
Yea the 55 Ford was the only one with the crappy round radio ! I see it still has the Y block in it . Are going to keep the Y block or run something bigger ? Retro Jim
That is a factory option 1957-60 ford truck radio Looks like you have a padded dash? The padded dash was a fairly rare option which came with padded visors and seat belts as a safety package. Glad to see you keeping the y-block, I hope your kidding about the stacks.
cant wait to sse it with the flames on it. gonna be a project but well worth it. i didnt see any airplane pics, get em in there, love planes skull
It's okay to post pictures ot that Taylorcraft too. Please. I overhauled a C65 about thirty year ago. edit; A65...... edit
OK guys, I will answer several posts at once. Unless it becomes impossible for some reason, the "Y" block STAYS, coming back as a 312 "Thunderbird Special". The original color of this truck was "Sea Foam Green" and the dark gray paint comes off, all the way to the metal, it gets re zinc chromated, primed, and shot with Sea Foam Green. The flames will almost be phantom flames, and start at the front as a light Silver Metallic, gradually morphing to a metallic green that is something a little lighter than the color of the truck, probably lightened with a very small amount of the metallic silver. About the stacks, there were a LOT of trucks back when I said I wanted one that were running them. I would like to route them through the oak floor of the bed, but not if it's going to really screw the truck up. After all, the trucks back then had very garish loud, flame jobs, and I want a subdued phantom flame scheme on the truck, so there went period correct ANYWAY. The Diamond tuck interior with twin buckets, the round radio, and a multi-CD changer playing mid fifties to early sixties music hidden under the drivers seat STAY. From a safety standpoint, the truck will have disk brakes all around, and a rack and pinion steering system. SO, what do you THINK folks? Where is the best place to get a rack and pinion front end, and four wheel disk brakes from? Has anyone used the alternator that looks like a chrome generator that Mac's sells? How well does it work? If I don't go with the stacks, what exhaust is period correct for the south east back then, Lake Pipes under the doors, or a pair of straight back drainpipe sized exhausts coming straight out under the rear bumper? Brie
That brings back good memories of the olden days... remember those auto show pickups..stunning. No you can't build it the way you want. There are way over 100,000 people here to build it their way but yes, the diamond interior is staying
Brie, I'm just starting a '60 F100 project myself ... mine has the round radio as well. Looking forward to following your build story. Best wishes for a dream truck come true. Pauly
I saw a pickup with small exhaust stacks with the lid things. If I had read about it or heard it described I probably wouldn't have liked the idea, but there was something neat about them making this tinkling confused noise and moving around while being in stop-and-go traffic on the freeway. What year is the T-cart? I'm gonna guess '46. You're doing aerobatics in it?
The T-Craft is a 1940, complete with the little winglets for trim control onder the horizontal stabilizer. Yes, I do loops, rolls, hammerheads, cloverleaf rolls, barrell rolls, and spins in it. It has the A-75 mods done to it's A 65-8, all nice and legal, in the logbook. Brie
Your truck looks better than mine does right now, I will start on the restoration in June, I will keep everyone up to date with constant posts, and additions to my photo album, "Brie's Album", so that everyone knows where I am at with the project. Brie
