The Cliff note version. He understands why they do it, but he wasn’t buying it anyway. And yes I read entire posts and magazines if I buy them.

I have noticed that the Readers Digest, Sports Illustrated, and Time magazines do not reprint magazines from 50-60 years ago. I’m not sure why Hot Rod Magazine would want to do that. I think everything in the current issue is relevant in 2024.

  13. Hot Rod Deluxe was printed for years, and was real popular...

They’re all on the MT website.

On my phone, there’s a little icon on the bottom of the page, in small print, that says “Magazines”.

Click on that and there are multiple rows of magazines, sorted by title, latest issue first. There’s another icon in blue that says something like “See All”.

Click on that and you’ll get to all the past issues, sorted by year f you beat me to this.

and month, all the way back to issue number 1.

    My tablet is similar.

They also have some, but not all, of the other Peterson magazine archives.

I wish they had some of the titles that Peterson acquired but shut down immediately, like Car Life.

Some of those road tests etc are found on other web sites like the AHPS (Automotive History Preservation Society).

oops. I see a couple of you beat me to this.

Was worth repeating, as I am hit and miss here, and had assumed the worst.

when "car craft" bit the dust, peterson publishing offered to move my subscription to "motor trend." my responst to that was, "my dad still read that when he was 86. no thank you!"

Sadly that's not what Hot Rod is, the majority of the time.

I was not aware of Canadian Hot Rods so I sent them an email asking if they had a online issue to check out. I immediately received a response saying they would mail me a actual magazine to check out. Great, but they also informed me that the Canadian Post is shut down due to a strike so who knows when I will receive it. I will post my opinion once its in my hands.

Have seen it, never bought one.
    My impression was, that it was run by car people;
    not bean counting morons.

wait till you find out 4 Cyl FWD pushing 1800 hp are runnig 6's hitting, 230 out the back door...

technology is pushing the envolope... 1000hp is streetable 4 cyl now.

an 5.3 LS (opened ring gaps) 0411 computer, a 1500 worth of turbos stuff from ebay, and a EFI live subsription can hit 1000 rather easy with injectors and a pump that can feed them.

But... thats not the topic of this message board... and this mesage board isnt the topic of Hot Rod Magazine.

But that isnt what this site is about... so complaining that Hot Rod has 1000hp cars, where its not that uncommon any more...

AT&T spun off Warner Bros and CNN and they were picked up by Discovery. I lost a lot of money on this deal.

The circulation numbers are beyond bad at around 200,000. Every time this subject comes up, I look at the ad pages and the Winter issue looks very strong. Compare ad pages (income) of this issue compared to the Spring issue that featured HAMB friendly rides, and if you were a suit, you’d pass on another issue featuring traditional rides!

Everyone who points to the fact that HOT ROD is in business to make money is right. Time to move on.[

Good luck with HR mag. For me it went to hell with the 75th year trash. I have been there since their beginning.
They did not even get the first issue right.

Why would anyone buy or subscribe to a magazine looking for articles on traditional hot rodding when the best source for it is right here?

I thumbed through the last couple Hot Rod mags I received and promptly threw them out within an hour of their arrival. Absolutely nothing I was interested in. I tried to support them but I give up.

I buy old magazines at swap meets. I probably read them 50 years ago but I'm old and forgot about the first time, lol.
