Got my license in October of 1949 on Long Island. Built up a couple of rods, one with a 3/4 race flathead V-8 with parts from Frankie DelRoy's speed shop in NJ. Built my own air conditioner out of a compressor from an old refrigerator mounted on one bank of the engine like a generator on a 2-carb setup. Was out of the sport for years, working as a reporter in Washington DC. Bought a 1948 Kurtis midget in 1978, and re-installed an Offy in it. Have since published seven books on open wheel racing and been to Bonneville - a blast Right now I am researching Offy engines in passenger cars (the ultimate rod??) Be interested in what people have done with Offys on the road - Gordon Eliot White

Welcome, I have some of your books, great ref for history of Midget racing. I have a 48 KK copy that I'm restoring, using some of your Pics to restore car back to early 50's time frame. Thanks for your efforts. John
