Hello everyone my name is Paul. I am new to flathead v8( kind of). Grew up with my grandparents living next door and my grandad had a shop where he and I spent most of our time. He passed when I was 17 leaving me his tools and cars. The 1940 ford deluxe tudor he bought brand new it is 100% original and I have his maintanence/mileage log that details every oil change as well as the mileage after every maintenance! 77 years of logs! I have kept that going since he passed. I have the temp tags and loan info from the day he bought the car. I' 30 now and have 2 boys of my own and need to do more to make sure that this car is in perfect condition when its time for them to take over it. So I'm here to learn more so I can pass on this knowledge to them.
Thank you everyone. I learned quite a lot from my grandpa about the car and have the original owners book as well as all his notes. However I recently had to replace the brake light switch and noticed that the wires were statting to dry rot. So I went through the entire harness and will need to replace the whole thing. Then I realized I don't know anything about 6 volt systems and that's when I found this site. Still working on learning to navigate it. I wish this had a mobile app to go with it. Would make a greasonable tools for when I was in the shop and needed more information.
Welcome from Indiana! Can’t wait to see pictures. I was also fortunate to live next door to my grandparents. Grandpas shop was my playground.
Trying to figure that out now just read the tutorial on uploading pictures but still keep getting the error message
Those are the only pics I have of the car on my phone. As son as I get a chance to get a few projects out of the shop I'll have the car out for more pictures. Then back in for the new harness. Now to search the vendor list and find one that is new old stock hopefully. I want to keep it as ahoriginal as I possibly can.
Great story ! Just saw your pix...neat to see a true "time machine" ! Welcome to the H.A.M.B. from St. Louis ! Jonnie www.legends.thewwbc.net
I'm from the farmington st. Francois county area my grandpa's name was Roy Bloom. He ran a body shop and built a lot of hot rods in the area. At one time he was a dealer of benelli and ducati motorcycles. Lots of neat things and many of the older guys at the car meets I go to every once in a while recognize the car and ask if it's his. It was his baby. Even the owner of carolyns auto parts talks about him coming in for 40 years to buy parts and sand paper. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
That's the temp tag and loan papers from the purchase of the car while he was stationed in California Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Sorry to blow up the thread with pictures. All of his notes frome maintenence and repairs are labeled with mileage and dates but these and I was wondering if the notes here are from a 40 ford deluxe judging by part #s and what not. They don't make much sense to me. May be from cars he had in the shop to work on. At one point it says 49 mercury engine. How do I tell if the motor in the car is original like I thought or if the flathead spare is the original that's sitting on a pallet wrapped up in my shop?
