Years ago, I went to my first Starbird show in Tulsa. I was only 14 years old
at the time but I was exposed to some cars that would change my life. It was
a life changing experience. Looking back, I never would have thought I would
have the opportunity to meet some of these guys and I’ve been blessed to build
    relationships with most of them.

For years, I’ve wanted to do a show in Wichita to show the legendary builders that
what they started years ago is still alive today. When Dennis McPhail heard the news,
he wanted involved. So McPhail, Voodoo Jim and I, cruised all over Wichita one day
trying to find the ideal location for the show. We looked at a lot of kool places but we
needed a location that would set the stage for the Kustoms and Hot Rods that the show
will attract. I believe I have found the location.

The show will be held at the Aviation Museum in Wichita. It is a kool art-deco style
structure that will appeal to the kustoms and Hot Rod builder and to anyone interested
in historical preservation. We will be parking among the planes that are on display so it
will be a kool photo op. For more background information, check out the web site.
    www.kansasaviationmuseum.org

The show will be September 11 & 12, 2009. We are going to do a show that will spot
light the legendary Kustom and Hot Rod builders that originated out of the Wichita area.
The list of builders is mind boggling. (Titus Brothers, Cushenberry, Stuckey, Carl Green
and many more....) The cat that started it all was Darryl Starbird. He started something
that was amazing. If it wasn’t for Darryl I would not have (and many others) been into
Kustoms and Hot Rods. I wonder if Starbird ever thought about how many lives he has
    changed?

I wanted to let the HAMBers know on what was going on next year.
Here is some of the highlights.

The show will be a pre-65 show.

Dennis McPhail will be throwing some ink on a kool event poster and T shirt art.

We will have a cruise on Friday that will take you by some legendary shops in the past
and some that are continuing the tradition. Have you seen the garage that started it
all? I have and it is like standing on holly ground. Our tour will take you buy the location.

The Show will be held Saturday at the Aviation Museum and Sunday will be a travel day.

I’m in the process of finishing the web site and we will be mailing out flyers very soon. If
you’re not on the SKK mailing list, please send me your address and I’ll throw something in
    the mail.

    Stay tune for more details……..

    Happy Trails,

    Mick

Great news! I'm glad to hear your moving in on my old stomping grounds. You'll get a lot of support in Wichita. It's been one of the greatest cruzin places next to So Cal that I've ever seen and I've been around the block a time or two. See you in B'ville in a few days.
