I've got this old photograph of King St in Kitchener. Ontario, where my great grandfather owned a billiards/cigar shop (you can see the Billiard sign on the right in the background). I'd like to get an idea of the time frame based on the cars in the picture. Any help identifying the cars in the photo would be greatly appreciated!!
    Cheers!!! Billiards.jpg

I would say mid to late 20's from the cars parked by the curb.

  3. All we can do is guess. Probably no one here that would remember that particular day???? My guess is 1929.

That looks like a Christmas tree on the fender of the leadoff car---It's somewhere in the 20s. Maybe 1929, maybe earlier. If you say it's 1927 no one can argue.

So it's Christmas season. The Christmas tree goes with the one sign reading "Compliments of the Season". If I really wanted to nail it down, I'd list the stores and try to find when they started and/or closed. If any of them closed in the late 20s, then you could predate by that. If any of them opened after 1928, for instance, then you could postdate by that. It could narrow it down. Just going by cars, I agree with the others, late '20s. The local library archivist might be your best friend in this case.

Personally I do not see a car newer than 1930 in that pic. And nothing older than about 1925. I think the first car is a 26-27 Chrysler. The second one 24-26 Overland?

  8. It would be difficult to narrow it down any more than probably November or December of 1927 -1929 or even very early '30s, but I think everyone's on the right track of late 20's. Apparently as late as 1916 Kitchener was known as Berlin, but anti-German sentiment as a result of WW1 caused the name to be changed.

Nov-Dec. 1930. Compliments of the Season is a movie playing at the Lyric Theater. It was released in Nov. 1930. If we had a better view of the Capital Theater we might be able to pin it down a little closer based on what was playing there.

I agree with SR100, December 1930. The car with the Christmas tree on the fender is a 1927 Whippet

  16. I remember it like it was before I was born. I think it is interesting that all the cars look to be the same make and year. Like around 1928 or 9?

SR100---who starred in the movie? Seriously, I admire the investigative approach you used.

SR100 - What a great way of finding out the time. I figured posting it on the Hamb I'd get it nailed down by the cars - but a movie done it. Guess if I would have posted on a movie forum - some one would rhymed off all the cars and get it that way :)

    Thanks everyone for the input
    Cheers

The third car from the left looks like 28 or 29 Ford.
