    VENT AND RAMBLE ALERT

I sold my 'glass roadster body, a trailer, and a TON of crap to a local guy recently. I took it in the shorts on the sale. The whole time, the guy is eyeballing shit in my garage, trying to get me to throw it on the trailer for free. (I wasn't happy about selling my stuff in the first place, and this guy wasn't helping things out. In hindsight-I should have told him to leave and not come back...)

I had to point out that I still have a '32 sitting right there in front of him (in case he didn't notice it after tripping over it trying to look at all the shithe wanted off of it-WTF?) in the garage that I need MY parts for. "You gonna use those ladder bars? How about the gennie grille?" " Hey, you got a title for this thing?"

Then I ran my yap too far, "yeah, I have one...but not sure if I want to get rid of it."

"Why dont you want to get rid of it? I dont undestand...your car is a coupe, not a roadster...you sold ME the roadster, so I should get the title..." on and on and on and ON! (I didnt advertise a title being for sale, amongst a LOT of other shit I threw in.)

In 5 days, he's called me four times, asking for kingpins, hairpins, heims, steering shit, disc brakes. All stuff I have ON MY CAR! I told him, "Yeah, for a price. You got a pretty great deal, I didn't." (He must think I'm running a miitary mans' hot rod garage for charity.)

So, I'm a man of little patience, and a VERY short fuse. This guy lit it...I have a wife, 3 kids....trying to be cool, but DAMN!

Anyody else run into clowns like this, and what do I do (please, lets be adults :) I can't be beating people up anymore). haha

    vent over, I feel better!

After a while I explained to my buyer that he paid for what he got. Had he paid more he would have gotten more. But he didn't so our transaction is done.

Be honest. Tell him you are not interested. You will call if you want to do business in the future. Thank you and good luck.

If you know him and you will be running into him from time to to time around town then just let him know you may be offering some items in the future but not now. Check back in a year or two.
If you don't know this guy and don't care about ever knowing him then just be blunt, tell him there are no more stuff available and your aren't interested in selling anything more, ever.

Guys like him are one reason I seldom invite 'unknowns' to my garage. They start seeing stuff and pretty soon I am engaged in conversations I never wanted or worse yet I wind up giving stuff away.

Just flat out tell him your stuff is not for sale.Sounds like a real asshole anyway.Keep your stuff locked up,he does know what you have now. When someone gets pushy just push back and escort them out.Run into assholes like that at swapmeets, have told a few my stuff ain"t for sale to them.

Avoid the potential problem, I don't let people in my garage unless I know them. If I'm selling something it is outside on the driveway when they get here, garage closed, and I make no mention of having anything of interest in the garage. After I talk to them for a bit if they seem like a straight shooter I'll show them my other stuff. I've met too many people that have the "wandering eye" checking out all my shit.

On a more positive note, I've met some great people and sold/bought parts, cars to great guys here on the HAMB.

If you don't want to be blunt with the guy just add on an extra $100.00 on top of what that item would cost brand new it won't take long before he stops calling.

because I can be a real a$$hole in situations like this and tell the guy what's really on my mind, I'll refrain from further comment...

I was GIVING away extra wheels and tires recently. Fellows were picking them up and asked if I had anything else to get rid of. Wanted to get a look at the rod since I had the garage door open. Said they are always looking for stuff to pick up including cars. What's this starting to sound like?

I told them if they would leave their name and phone number, I would keep an eye out. After I got that, I told them I would have my son who is a state trooper look around too. Hmmmmmmm? They seemed to get a funny expression when I said that.

This isn't about getting rid of a buyer, but someone pushy and nosey.

    Know what I mean?

because I have kidney stones and the USAF won't let me fly until they figure out what's causing them:D

my thoughts exactly, the same kinda guy who sits down next to you at the deployed chowhall, sticks his finger in your desert, and asks you "gonna eat that?"

I havea tendency to "shotgun blast" people to their face, and even for things less than this. I'm amazed (and so is my wife) that I've held out this long. I'm REALLLLY trying not to blow my stack. HULK SMASH!

Oh well, thanks guys..guess it's not just me then!

NOTE TO SELF: NEVER SELL ANYTHING!

Yeah, he got a LOT more than I bargained for! I have NO time to wheel and deal, and I jsut wanted that stuff GONE! Next time, I'll take a week of leave and put everything up on ebay, no reserve.

    Thanks yet again Rich!

yeah, which is why I made it prefectly clear as to what I did for a living and made sure my two German SHepards made a low speed pass past him while he was counting his money.

This guy...I actually had my teenage son watch him while I went into the garage and got some parachute cord so he could tie MORE crap down with. As soon as HIS stuff was loadeed, I shut the garage door. Clean cut, seemingly nice guy, but...I dont like strangers in my garage looking around either.

That is what I don't agree with. I've ran into this before, someone selling a car and then they try to charge "extra" for the title. Total BS. I've walked every time I've ran into that. Either charge the guy what you want with the title or don't sell it. And folks wonder why states are getting more and more picky about titles

I am a patient man, but when pushed too hard, I hand the cash back, and say: "DEAL'S OFF". I begin taking my stuff back. The jackass usually starts apologizing all over himself, but too late, you pushed too hard.

Bad enough selling stuff for nothing, I have to take your nonsense too? I don't think so.

And if you want to be "nice", just say: "No hard feelings, bro, just get the fuck out".

like "I Drag" stated. next time he calls tell him you decided you sold him the parts to cheap and if he will bring the stuff back you will give him his money back. Keep calling him back for a couple of weeks or untill he quits answering his phone.

The guy I am thinking about just kept coming back. "Do you have U bolts for this rear end? This spring is broke"
Stuff like that. As I said, I reminded him he paid for and got old used parts. Had he wanted new there are places that sell them. Our transaction was done without more money. He left and I never saw him again.

If you don't have a motion detector activated security camera system, you better get one. I don't like people in my garage and will flame them in a second if I don't know them. I'm getting a bad vibe from this and I don't even know the guy. Cover your bases my friend...you haven't seen the last of this guy!
