spray it over a purple base, if you put it over a black base and you dont get a heavy coat you will see the black through it. If you want it to pop more put a little sparkle flake in it.

What are you using to put the flake in ???
I prefer to put flake over a similair base colour.

  7. its over a gloss black base its cleared and plenty of coats its slightly smaller than monster flake but it just dont hurt your eyes in the daytime

The ability to pop won't be affected by the base colour, bear in mind its probably overcast where you are with little sun, what type of lacquer did you use. Flake jobs don't look much without a bit of sun 8-(

  13. I painted purple flake over black and it looked great. Make sure you have enough coverage and enough clear. Once you put on the heavy clearcoat it should pop if you have enough coverage.

I have a similar problem on my A. In the direct sun it has a haze sort of. You see too much of the base color I think. It depends on the angle you see it from. Under flourescent lights it pops like nobodys business.

Purple is a dark color. You put it over black, which is even darker. Dark colors do not really "pop". I mean, what are you expecting here?

I painted my last 2 cars purple, it's just a dark color.

You might have better luck with a lavender (light purple) base.
