I'm in the process of building my first rod('27 Tub)with an early caddy('52) and would like to replace the single carter wcd with possibly a pair of 94's.Mine has a rod going from the carb linkage to the tranny(hydro-matic).Is this basicly an early trans kickdown?Any way around this?Full manual valvebody? Also has anyone tried running a drivers side center dump exhaust manifold on the passenger side?Looks like it would flow better but would probably require a hear shield to protect the starter.
the pass. manifold has the mount for the generator. you will need that unless you go to altenator and fab up a different bracket. the kick down for the trans alows it to shift. if you do not use the kick down then the trans will shift threw all 4 gears with in 15 mph. you can controll the shift points with the kick down, meaning you can make it shift quicker or slower. the easyest way is to run a tri power set up cause you can get the mount plate for the linkage alot easyer. hope this helps-------------john
Detrotit Racing (maybe others) built an intake manifold for the early 1950's Cadillac engine that was drilled for two of the Carter WCD carbs. Changing one original Cadillac WCD for a pair of Holley 94's, while possibly better looking, is probably a decrease in performance. Jon.
What everyone on this thread calls a kickdown rod, is not a kickdown rod, but a throttle valve rod (tv rod). It controls various pressures in the transmission via the accelerator, and in fact needs to be there and adjusted correctly. There is no workaround for this rod. (Modern day transmissions use either a vacuum modulator or computer, with the exception of the 700r4, which uses a TV rod) The TV rod controls shift points, along with partial and full throttle downshifts.
