Does anybody have the dimensions necessary to locate a 1953 - 56 Ford F100 steering box correctly on a reproduction 1932 Ford frame?

Also, what would the steering/suspension geometry consequences of moving it forward an inch or two?

    Thanks!

Side steer or cross steer? Side steer placement is critical for bump steer. Cross steer you have some leeway.

Sorry for being so vague. I'm looking to install a '53 - '56 F100 steering box in a reproduction frame. I've corrected my original post to be clearer. Thanks!

Location also depends on the engine/trans/exhaust you are going to run. Your best bet is to mock it all up and see how much room you have. If you can, also have the dash/seat/steering wheel you are going to use mocked up so you can get an idea of the angle to set it at.

Danny: Yes, but I plan to cut it for length and to splice in a splined end for an early banjo wheel.

There are no holes in the frame yet so I can put the box pretty much anywhere, but I need the stock location as a place to start.

Also, wasn't the F-100 box usually bolted in the same place where the stock box was taken out?

You must do what he said. The last one I did was repro boxed, no holes. Early Cad 331 motor/stick trans, stock Cad manifolds, and he wanted to run hoodsides.

I fussed with mockup forever to do what he wanted. Also, he ran a undropped 32 heavy beam and I had to get the drag link at the best angle possible. I am positive the F100 box in that car is not near the original location. Even the center hole was not at the same height as stock, as I was scratching for a 1/4" here, and there, to get the whole front half of the car right.

Tiny motor and lakes headers would eliminate the fussy mock ups

    Early banjo needs keyway/taper. F100 is taper/splined

I didn't find a diagram with dimensions at Wescotts and can't read the ones on the diagram you posted (old eyes). Can somebody just walk out into their shop and measure from the front spreader bar hole to the steering box hole on their OEM '32 frame? Sure would save a lot of eye strain. Thanks!

I can walk out to the shop and get you a closeup of the Wescott print.

I have an original unmolested frame on hand. I can get the dimensions you mention if you still need them on Friday when I go to the shop.

Yes, please. I understand that some of the printed diagrams are not correct. Thanks very much!

I put mine in the stock location. Definitely would not work forward without serious mods to frame or box or both.

Get your motor mocked up, and exhaust manifolds first. Mold the steering stuff around engine requirements.

Very important to do what CornFed said. Mock everything up for proper fit.
