Had a great time yesterday and parked next to the R.D. Great bunch of guys! Pics to come after I pry the out of the camera....
I was there yesterday, too. I loved the dark blue, straight-axle Falcon gasser. Also enjoyed the cars in the Rod Shop Reunion section. Jim
Here's a few pics from the event. This coupe was actually pretty well built, and on it's way to being a killer car. The dark spots are paint, not perforation.
Lot of off-topic cars in this pic, but the '32 is an all steel (fenders too)rumble seat coupe with a diamond pleat interior and some fine pinstriping. Was built about '73 or so pretty much as you see it now. Actually won the drag race eliminations at Hell on Wheels last year. Belongs to a friend of mine.
It was cool seeing the old Rod Shop cars, but the star of this picture is the '57 wagon. It is a faithful recreation of the 2nd car to go down the track at NTR in 1964. The original guys built this car using a solid shell from a donor car and nearly everything else from the original car. Plus they never threw anything away-they had their 1964 NTR Class Champions' jacket, hand-written time tickets, trophies, even gate entry reciepts.
Very groovy little coupe. The '56 Chevy was found in a barn (no kidding) by a lucky-ass friend of mine, real time machine. It has all it's original speed equipment with the little stamped "NHRA Approved" tags all over it. Even came with the original helmet. It's pretty much in "As Found" condition, and is just too cool for words.
Man, the RPU just turns my crank. The T-Bird belonged to the Owner of Hyde Park Dragway that was in Heath, Ohio from about '57 - '72. His son restored the car. The Dodrill family that owned the track had their own reunion and brought a bunch of memorabillia from that long -gone track.
Fastest FED of it's day and an absolutely stunning restoration. You could get lost in the paint on this thing
Older guy drove this mid-engine Anglia from Yougstown, about 3 hours. Wild machine, and yes, his last name is "Moore"
Neat story behind this one - the guy's Dad built the car "back then" and he was on the opening day crew at NTR in 1964. Can't tell too well in tis pic but the car is heavily 'flaked. just all Killer, no filler. The son raced the car last year at Hell on Wheels to a r/u finish.
