    Steve,

Looks like an interior light to me but could be wrong.

  10. My friends Perry and Jim helped change a few things on Saturday. I was more like a spectator as I was having a rough day that started with a visit to the emergency room for an unstoppable nose bleed. With a balloon stuck in my nasal cavity and heavy pain pills to help with the sinus headache caused by the balloon I was not much help.
We were going to change the valve springs because it won't rev much over 5,000 RPM (floats the valves). After adjusting the valves and a test run it was obvious the 5.57,s just weren't going to work with an engine that won't rev. I had a 4.56 open 3rd member that was 31 spline. 4.56's would get me down the track further between shifts so we stripped the spider gears from the 5.57 and put them in the 4.56. Lucky thing we did because the cross shaft had snapped. We decided against changing the springs because the springs I have are too strong for the non screw in studs on the 327 and I didn't want to deal with the problems that could cause, ripped out studs, flat cam lobes etc. Limited funds prevent me from having all the parts I know I need, I just do what I can with what I have.

Took another test drive and the gearing felt better but I really did like driving it with the 5.57's. I will miss the jump and the wicked 1-2 shift. I still wasn't pulling strong so we messed with the timing and checked the float levels. We made some improvements but it still isn't quite right. It should be good enough for a few fun runs at the H.A.M.B. drags! What it needs (obviously ) is a matched cam and kit. I have some nice ported out power pac heads with 2.02 valves so they can go on at the same time.....one day.

So that is it. Now I just have to get it up to Bakersfield on Thursday and load it up on the 3 car trailer so it can hit the road on Friday.

That's great news! As soon as I read Kev was going my first thought was "Don needs to be there with the Rebel Reaper!"

Good luck on your trip Kev, you'll have a blast! Good to see some California boys leaving the state!

Looking forward to seeing this Ca. trio. I have been a fan of yours since seeing your Ventura digs, I spent a lot of time there when living in Santa Barbara thru the 80's. Am very excited to see Marky's monster purple rig and Squeeks machine. Nasty Habit will be the topper. Safe and fun trip wishes, see ya all there. ~sololobo~

  27. Hey Kev, I just found out that I will going with you guys to the Hamb Drags and the Springfield Swap. WooHooo!!!! Should be a fun roadtrip with all my Kiwi buddies. Look out Joplin! I will actually be part of the crew. Squeak and I are making arrangements for the hookup. I'll call ya later this week.

  28. Nice to talk to you today Dale, we'll see you on the road!

I took the day off work today and borrowed my friends 89 Chevy pickup so Perry and I could tow my car up to Bakersfield. (2 hours). Made it just out of town and the tranny lost 3rd and 4th gears. Limped home and moved on to plan 2. well that didn't pan out so moved on to plan 3., Perry's El Camino. What a great little truck! It has an '87 throttle body injected 350 and a 700R4 trans. It hauled the Willys over the Grapevine no sweat!

When we pulled in to Squeak's place there were plenty of people ( Thursday night is pub night) and Squeak's '32 sedan was already loaded on the trailer. Marky and the Purple People Eater were already there and after a little socializing our cars were loaded and strapped down for the big adventure. You may see them on the road somewhere. They will be going to Joplin via Bonneville. Our Aussie friend Dennis is hauling them and he's on vacation so give him plenty of room on the highway. The cars are on the road Friday and we will leave Bakersfield on Tuesday, six Kiwi's in a Ford Dually, lock up your mothers!
