Thanks for remembering me! Bob's been working away, but I've been too busy to drive 10 miles to check progress.

He called last night to make sure I hadn't fallen off the earth, LOL. I told him since he hadn't heard from me to take it as a compliment since I obviously trust his skill and judgement!

The front end is all mocked up with the front bones landing at the front edge of the cowl. He wanted to know where I wanted the rear bones to land. Since the front bones land at a vertical surface (the cowl) we decided to land the rear bones at the rear edge of the door.

Keeping them short gives them more strength, but I still wanted them long enough to be visible outside the car.

Don't worry Kramer, I'll post pictures for you as soon as I get up there. Also, Bob is recording the whole build and it will be available on DVD in the future at www.streetrod101.net

Reason I've been too busy is I own a business, wife owns a business, and were in the middle of moving across town!

This happened quicker than I thought it would. I too had been saving parts and didn't realize I had so many.

Bob called again tonight. The plans for the rear bones are changing. The stock angle of the axle mount on the rear bones throws us a twist. The chassis is too narrow to land them where we anticipated, but Bob has another idea up his sleeve.

    Updates soon. Moving sucks.

Update time. You guys know how things seem to move slowly during a build? Walk away for two plus weeks while someone else builds your car part-time.

    Front end mocked up:
    uploadfromtaptalk1351113159879.jpg

Salt Flat Matt's headers on the mock up engine/trans:
    uploadfromtaptalk1351113226239.jpg

    Other side:
    uploadfromtaptalk1351113279918.jpg

    Rear end placed:

    uploadfromtaptalk1351114038124.jpg

The plan was to run the rear bones in a factory type configuration, but the angle just wasn't conducive to where we wanted the front of them to end. These are a few projects Bob is building for himself:
    uploadfromtaptalk1351114195343.jpg

On Bob's red T this is how he ran the bones, which is how I wanted mine:
    uploadfromtaptalk1351114264724.jpg

Instead, he will be cutting the ends off and channel some plate inside, fully welded.
    uploadfromtaptalk1351114375907.jpg

This shows the upper piece that will be welded to the axle housing. The upper piece will bolt through to the lower piece that will be welded inside the split bone. Make sense?
    uploadfromtaptalk1351114469412.jpg

So, that's where we are today. Thanks for following along!

That all looks really good. The rear end of the frame where it narrows in and kicks up looks somewhat familiar ;)

I was going to use a transverse spring myself and then changed my mind in favor of the coilovers :)

Is that a '40 front spring in the rear? I ask because that's exactly what I was going to use on my '27. How tall is the kick in the rear? 6"?

I see you've got a dropped axle up front. I'm planning to use the original '40 front axle and wishbones on mine, but kick up the front 3" or so to keep the car low. I'll run the spring off the wishbones like clutchdumpindan did on his truck mockup a while ago.

I'm really excited to see this come together since our projects are very similar.

Sorry for the lack of updates fellas, we've been moving across town. We started Thursday night and I literally just finished 10 minutes ago. Stopped at my favorite sandwich shop for a breather and checked in.

The rear spring is a '32 rear spring from So Cal. The front will have the spring mounted through the split bones, "spring behind" style.

I'm suspecting Bob has made much progress in the week or so since I've been there, I'm going to try to make it up there Saturday for a little while. If so, I'll post pics and let you know what the kick up measures.

I love California, but wouldn't move back there for JUST that reason. Australia is looking good these days...

Small update, I stopped by Bob the Builders today.

RJ, I forgot to measure the rear kick up, sorry. I'm pretty sure its 5", but not totally certain. I'll try to remember to measure it next time.

Time flies, and I didn't realize it had been more than a month since I'd been there... Wow! Keep in mind before viewing the photos that Bob has a total of 68 hours in this build so far. The clock started when we unloaded the car from the trailer. He has since disassembled all the old, built the chassis, and engineered a million things.

    uploadfromtaptalk1354154616572.jpg

The lower split bones are together and positioned, he hasn't begun the upper portion to make it a 4 bar, or the panhard bar. You can see how he slotted the bones and drilled the bottom to plug weld them. Lots of 3/8" and 1/2" plate here... Obviously the weak link is the 65 year old bone itself.

    uploadfromtaptalk1354154851876.jpg

    uploadfromtaptalk1354155095643.jpg

Engine mounts are ready, and Bob plans to have the K member done next week. The pictures show a TH350, but I'll be running a PowerGlide. I want to have options later (easy ones) so Bob's building a TH350 mount that will be painted chassis color, but stashed on the shelf until such time the PG takes a dump or I want a change.

    uploadfromtaptalk1354154886000.jpg

    uploadfromtaptalk1354154919952.jpg

Shock mounts are in (and some temp shocks), set at 27 degrees. They'll settle at 30 degrees when loaded.

    uploadfromtaptalk1354154951973.jpg

Anyway, some other changes and Bob's personal projects have changed the timeline some. He'll be taking additional time to video this car for his video series... I can't remember if I mentioned that earlier. It's fine, we're not in a hurry and he's doing a great job. Hell, I couldn't do in 680 hours what he's done in 68! :D

Holy crap! I just realized that I'm having someone else build a car for me. Does this entitle me to become a member of the Gold Chainers Car Club?

Tim, I'm watching your thread intently. You know my soft spot for green A Tudors! :D I just don't chime in much because I don't want to ruin your thread with my over excitement!

Kramer, sorry we don't have the upper 4 bars done yet. Coming soon, I promise!
