With that low of mileage I don't see how you could turn it down. Won't take much to get her roadworthy again. Did you get it yet?

The Chev wagon will always be worth more than the Jeep; so as you fix up the 62 it's value will go up. Hopefully your wife will like the 62.

When I was young I sold my 325is BMW and put every dime and then some into a 49 Studebaker truck. That was crazy it was just a pile of parts I did not even know what they looked like my father had one.

You're crazy for asking. New Jeeps SUCK. Mention the safety features to your wife (they're small but important ... who would pull out in front of a steel bullet?) and they are a LOT less likely to rollover than a Wrangler too. Do it.

Thats a hell of a trade, and everyone is right...new jeeps suck! If it were an older CJ7 I'd hang on to it...but isn't. You'll be making a MUCH better investment with the 62....but you already knew that ;)

The Jeep is probably safer (better brakes, air bags, 3 pt. shoulder harnesses front and rear, engineered crumple zones, softer interior materials, meets modern impact standards, etc). Wranglers also hold their resale better than damn near anything else.

That said, if you need the room (and you do) and upgrade the safety areas of the wagon, then you're ahead in the long run.

OK, since wives are always right we've established that you're crazy. It's too late to argue that.

The bigger question is are you going to buy the wagon?

Buy the Chevy, since your in PA, keep the Jeep as a winter beater and salt catcher.

Tell her the tranny is going out of the jeep, and it will cost 3500.00 to fix. That will seal the deal.

When your wife says you're crazy, just reply "And your point
    is?
".....and then go and buy that wagon! Definitely buy the
    wagon!

    mart

P.S For daily driving, mileage and drivebility should be pretty
good with this car anyway and at least close to what you're
getting now. But if it is real concern, remember that sometime
in the future you could alway drop in a later model EFI injected
small block and overdrive automatic. Since the car's old enough
that you can legally run it without emissions contols (ie without
a cat and with the ignition timing set for maximum mileage and
power) an EFI small small block and O.D. tranny in this car
should end up giving you better mileage than your '97 Wrangler.
Add an aftermarket "RV" cam ground for low and mid range
torque and set of small diamiter, long tube headers hooked to
a 2 1/2 inch dual exhaust system with an H or an X pipe to
the a late model EFI V8 and O.D tranny combo and your
mileage and driveability should end up being way better than
your Wrangler! Practicality, class and coolness all at the same
time! Ya' can't beat that deal with stick! Definitely buy the
    wagon!

  27. Ask the lovely missus if she'd rather get frisky in the back of the Jeep or the back of the wagon. I think the wagon would win. Add in the "kool" factor that the wagon has and it's a no-brainer.

All of us on this site are crazy at one level or another;and the point is?

OK,ask the kids: would you rather be picked up at school in the Jeep or the wagon? Now that would be a determining factor.

  28. not at all! i would do the same thing

  29. I likes me the wagons
    <-----
If you pass on this you will look back in a few months and kick youself.
The "what if" would haunt you the rest of your life, like all the cars we all sold that we wish we had now!!

Trade. The wagon is cool and as was mentioned, is a vehicle with a climbing value..The Jeep is not.
Plus, IF you choose at some point that you want another Jeep, they are ALL over the place....just go get another. The same can not be said for the wagon.......
And this is coming from someone who owns an 02 Wrangler and actually really dig's it...
As far as being crazy.. Being so hooked on old cars like we are, i'd say every one of us is.
    I'm fine with that :)
