I thought I was very lucky to find my 38 standard after a 53 year hibernation from 1962 to 2015.. I just brought home a 1953 Plymouth club coupe that sat for about 30 years in a barn in the Columbus, Ohio area.. It has just 26,000 miles on it but the original paint does show some wear from the barn storage.. The story goes; The father of the guy I bought it from was a salesman at a Chrysler, Plymouth dealership and sold this new Plymouth to a little old lady who only drove it around town for 20 some years before she passed away and the original salesman bought it from her estate.. He too barely drove the car and willed it to his son about 25 years ago.. The son drove it very little if at all and I bought it from him after a lengthy barn stay.. The original owner installed seat covers shortly after she bought it and are still on the car.. They're ugly but in good shape so I will leave them on.. Here are a few pics of my second barn find.... **clic pic** 100_4243.JPG 100_4246.JPG 100_4249.JPG 100_4250.JPG 100_4270.JPG

Nice find! I love these old 50's Plymouths and the Cranbrook was top-of-the-line in '53 (for Plymouth anyways). They are usually cheap to buy when you find them and you will most likely be the only person at a show with one when you drive it. People love to tell stories of their Plymouth, or the one they rode in as kids. Unfortunately, Plymouth has joined the ranks of Hudson, Packard, Nash, and Pontiac in deceased car brands, but the company that brought you the 'Cuda, Fury, RoadRunner, and the infamous Prowler will not be forgotten. Not buy us who know the true value of these bulletproof, no-frills examples of American automobiles.

I probably will do a motor, trans, rear end change but keep the stock front suspension with a coil or 2 cut...

Motor will be nothing exotic.. Just something to putter around in.. Yes, motor, trans, rear end and radiator will be for sale.. I want a stock lowered look and it will be a low budget build.. I really like how clean the interior is and with no rust to contend with.. I would like to see other 53/54 Plymouths or Dodges for inspiration....

ya done real good x 2 - as you know, figuring out what size motor/trans will fit with stock suspension would be the way to go - add some nice sounding mufflers & even a small block will do the trick

Wow, fantastic find! Many people nowadays put 26,000 miles on a car in a year. In it's 66 years, that car has averaged about 400 miles per year!
I'd be carefully removing those seat covers to see if the factory seats are mint. If so, might be tempted to cover them with vintage clear plastic seat covers.

All I would do to that is "Colour Sand" that paint and blow some clear over it to get it shiny!
Any existing stone chips underneath will leave people scratching their heads.

New brake shoes and hoses etc for safety
Put a vintage sound system in it, and then cruise around listening to "Marty Robbins and Jim Reeves"

These cars that seem to pop out of the time tunnel can get more admirers than something that's modified.

    Nice Find

  27. Isn't there a saying, "Sex, drugs, rock'n roll...and 53 Plymouth.". Or something like that? Very nice!

  28. Time capsule. You don't have to hunt down any hard to find parts!
Dad used to tell me his car in college was a Plymouth. That was 1960 - '64. It was thought to be uncool at the time. His peers drove Fords and Chevys. I think the shape of your car is nice. Plus it's a 2 door sedan!
Critter free interior, no hit body, dash not dicked up. Rare find and glad you got it.

I was anxious to see if the paint would clean up any.. I'm by no means a body or paint man but it looks like it will clean up good enough for me.. I don't want it to be to nice, just a little shine and the right amount of natural patina on original paint.... 100_4283.JPG 100_4284.JPG 100_4285.JPG **clic pic**
