well, this weekend I flew out to San Francisco, CA to finally pick up the lincoln I have been wanting for so long. Luckily my brother lives in the area, and I was able to stay at his place for the weekend. The old guy that owned it had had it for about 32 years, and aside from sunday drives, he kept it locked away in his garage. it is the most solid 56 year old car that I have ever seen. well, let's cut to the chase.

Jeez that is cool as hell ! If Bary White was a car, that would be it.

  8. Lincoln's are the forgotten ford & merc. Here's a photo of a '48 similar to mine I don't have a good pic of mine (it's on blocks jammed between a 50 shoebox & a 56 F100. sorry)

Lincolns can be very nasty if dropped correctly.

Not a favorite car of mine, but the color and condition give it tremendous dignity. It's very cool. I hope you're planning to keep it mostly unmolested.

that's the plan, for now I just need to update her cooling system, and give it a thorough once over. it was dead sitting in the PO's garage. The more I drive it, the more stuff comes alive, it's cool.

As usual, Rikster has a very good eye. Almost any car looks better with a little lowering (and the removal of unnecessary barbs). If it was mine, I'd have it low but level -- the taildragger look seems out of place on a stately sedan.

My first custom was a San Francisco based 1949 Cosmo coupe I bought in 1994.
It took me a few years to chop it, but I just modified as I went, and funds permitted. I even ran the stock 337 flathead till the OD tranny died and it couldn't go over 50 mph.

They are big cars (luckily yours is the slightly shorter wb Merc-ish body) but they cruise oh so nice. This was my car right before I sold it last year:

The word "retrieval" in the title conjures up images of a car sitting at the bottom of a ravine, in the middle of a muddy field, or in the woods with a tree growing in the engine compartment. I certainly didn't expect to see such a clean example!

    Nice find!

The unusual details and trim, especially the tunneled lights, and the rarity of these things will cause most people to take it for a custom as it sits...it doesn't need a thing.
