I thought I'd finally share my father-in-law's truck. It's not a hot rod per se, but I think it's pretty cool. It started with a '46 GMC that he and his dad restored in the late 70's. it didn't get driven hardly at all in 30 years, but he dusted it off and started tinkering with it. He quickly realized that it was underpowered and he decided to change that. One day, I was home sick from work and checking out Craigslist, when I saw an ad for a 270. I ended up getting it and the rebuild began. I found an old dual carb intake and a pair of zenith carbs on eBay. He had the engine rebuilt with new pistons, hollow pushrods, etc. He rebuilt the zeniths, put on dual exhaust and converted to 12 volts. The only other things he changed were the rear gears and the tires. Is it a hot rod? Who knows? I think it's awesome and so does my little girl.
I would not call it a hot rod, it's a really neat truck with a cool intake on it. I would love to own it.....I love those inlines.
Hell yeah it's a hot rod, and a uber cool truck. It is just so simple awesome. Thanx for sharing this sweetheart with us, and speakin o sweethearts, what a little cutie driving Gramps rig!! ~sololobo~
that's only a HOT ROD when you want it to be. with Fentons and duals it must sound like a HOT ROD when you tach it up just right.
Very cool old modified truck. Brings up a good question though, when does a modified vehicle become a "hot rod"? Is it the look the attitude I am just not sure.
I guess there are a lot of guys on here who don't know how hot rodding started. A hopped up engine in a stocker is how the whole hot rodding thing got off the ground - that's a neat truck and a period correct old time hot rod hop up for sure....
Sweet truck. And nice trees too. I also got 'em. And that's my HAMB friendly 1959 Massey Ferguson Work Bull. It's not really a hot rod but the muffler broke off a long time ago.
