Thanks to the posting here, my dad is going to be "famous"! He's been signing releases and faxing them the last 2 days, and it looks like they want to use the pic in TV ads, on Facebook, Twitter, and Youtube! The car is his '60 Impala (348/3speed). In the pic, he's holding drag racing trophies he won at local tracks (mostly Piedmont). The ad copy is already on Chevrolet's Facebook page. He and my grandfather rebuilt the 348 in my grandfather's 1 car garage in Gastonia, NC shortly after this pic, adding high compression Jahns pistons, 409 pushrods, a solid lifter cam, and a few other goodies. Ronnie Sox widened the factory steel wheels, which were chrome plated along with the fronts.
I only have one other of the '60 on this computer. I think he has a couple of others...one's an engine shot. I'll scan them next time I visit him (little over 2 weeks). I have a lot more pics of his '55, that I posted on another thread...these were taken in '57-'58.
I wish. The '55 was rolled at Shuffletown Drag Strip (back when it was dirt!). He sold the '60 a few years later, to someone in the Gastonia, NC area. He hasn't seen it since. Somewhere along the way, in the late '60s, he also had a '34 Ford 5 window coupe with a 270hp 283 and a 4 speed...also gone! He has a '63 Impala convertible now (restored/semi-modified), and another '55 2 dr sedan (this one a BelAir) that we are going to start on soon.
Good luck! I was pretty surprised out of all the submissions, my dad's was picked. I always loved '61s, and I hardly ever see one.
My dad bought a white Bel Air hard top new in 1960 also. I bought it from him in 68 but it was a real turd 6cyl P.G. It only had one speed...slow.
My first car was a 60 impala I got in 1970 and it had Gastonia N. C. stickers on the windows and one from Gaston State College.
