A good friend came out yesterday with his '40 Coupe and I snapped his picture and it reminded me of another picture of him that I have taken in 1954. This is yesterday: Same guy in 1954:
Neat cars. That 34 sure is stripped. What were you doing to it? Making it into a hot rod, circle track car, or parting out?
It reads as if I took the original picture but I didn't and wasn't one of the intrepid crew. They went on and finished it, its quite a story. Here's a pic of the finished car, I've posted this photo before on the Hamb.
You guys probably thought that "jumbo" wheel on the '34 was junk & couldn't wait to get rid of it ...
Thats the scooter he used to drag the car to his house. You see the creeper? They used that creeper to haul an engine from a mentors' house on the other side of town to his house. It was a flattie from the guys El Mirage car that my buddy helped on, the guy gave it to him when he upgraded the lakes car and they used that creeper to get the engine back to his house.
What a great photo. This one has to bring back good memories. I wish we'd see more like this on the site.
That particular photo has a story too. I posted it years ago on the hamb and a few years afterward my buddy sent me an email that contained a contest to win a subscription to Rodders' Journal, the criteria was 'best use of Rodders Journal' or some such thing and He told me to scroll thru the entrants. One of the contestants had taken this photo and added a Rodders Journal into the left hand of the guy in the white shirt! We were floored! The photo actually won the subscription for the guy, my buddy contacted Rodders' Journal and supplied the story behind the photograph and they did a story on it in Rodders' Journal #60, it features these pics as well as a couple others. Rodders Journal never revealed who did the photochop, if its one of you perhaps you'll fill in any blanks.
