NEW VIDEO, PAGE 2 OF THREAD

Hey everyone. My '60 was in this month's Goodguys Gazette from the September East Coast Nationals in Rhinebeck, NY. I won the Young Guy's Pick, and it made me proud all over again to see her in the magazine. :D Page 74, for you subscribers ...

(sorry for the quality, no scanner available right now)

Looking back six months, my truck has seen its fastest pace of change yet since the original restoration. It's daily driven, and I don't have a second car, so I don't have the resources to pull it off the road and really do it up. But over the past six months, the truck has had a motor swap, an exhaust system, and a lowering, and it's made all the difference.

Click the engine photo for my Y-block Swap thread ... lots of pics, and 2 videos. I still haven't made a video with the finished exhaust system.

And just last weekend, I dropped my pride & joy off at the spring shop to have her dropped. Still got the I-beam front axle. The front leaves were de-arched to drop 3". The rear axle was flipped on top of the springs, which gave me about 5" in the back. The truck has a slight taildragger stance now, and the rear tire is just barely tucked in the fender. I absolutely love the look. The truck was stock height before, so the difference is striking. The truck isn't low low, but it was affordable, period correct, and honestly, I wouldn't want it much lower for street driving. I already scrape my exhaust tips leaving Taco Bell.

Here are some before & afters for ya:

And just a few new shots of my "medium rider" ...

The Yaphank Garage ... restored but chained off. If I manage to negotiate a photo shoot in there I'll update here.

A more recent, but more decrepit auto parts store parking lot.

It's remarkable what just a few inches will do. I needed to adjust my mirrors. You no longer have to step up to get in. And I still need to aim my headlights. No bump steer to speak of, though.

The spare will just be sitting in the bed, when I get around to having a bed cover made.

Looks a ton better. How much was the front dearch? What could be done to lower the front more if anything? Straight axle and me....no experience together. I wished I had lowered my unibody the same way tho, it would have rode stiff but at least looked cool!

Good job you Skankin' Pickle you...

The front was de-arched for a 3" drop. To get it lower, I could go with smaller tires, and/or a dropped axle. The dropped axle will place the axle below the scrub line, though, which I wouldn't want to do on a car I drive everywhere.

Yep, I noticed the pics and noticed that it was "pre-lowering". Cool truck. Nice job!

Some of you also might be interested to know that the late Bill Drake's truck also was pictured in the same issue (mar 08) on page 172 (Winner "Under Construction", Chicagoland Nats). Gave me some goosebumps to see that one...

Nothing like a altitude adjustment to improve the looks. She still can do a days work to. I'll call this one a win/win.

I just finished a new video of the truck ... plenty of driving footage. :)

Great sounds from inside and out. The Cherry Bombs are pretty well burned out now and it sounds awesome.
