Hi all, new to the board. Dad took me along to the HAMB Drags '07 for my birthday. Best present I ever got. That weekend ruined me forever, and it inspired the purchase of this 56 Chevrolet...

I bought this 56 about 2 weeks ago for 2500 bucks and borrowed a grand from the bank to swing it. Dad owned a '55 210 about 10 years ago, he sold it, but saved all the old speed parts he had collected for it. We can finally put 'em to use. My budget is minimal, my talent is minimal. Don't know if I can do it but I'll sure try.

Nice ride! I've had my 57 delivery since 75,your going to love it.
Search out posts by "MP&C" here and on Chevytalk for some
great step by step sheetmetal repair tutorials. Study them closely,
lots to be learned. What kind of driveline do you have planned?

  13. Sounds like it was priced right, at any rate. We have a better one up here and some nut offered $500 for it a while back. I wasn't very polite with him. Good luck with your project -

Actually saw a 56' delivery with the passenger car rear bumper, it looked like it belonged there. I did'nt catch it at first, but I wonder if the lift gate would clear the guards. Was on a drag car so it did'nt have license plates. In your last pics, the "other" delivery, is it a true delivery ,or a 150 wagon with panels added? It's got the sloping paint/color separator deliveries dont have; I guess it could have been added. The VIN on true deliveries start with a "D". Looks like you have a good sourse of parts if the seller sells parts and not just cars.

I did just that in 1975 when I was 15. Back then it was $450 but had
    a high compression,solid lifter cammed,327,3 speed, and a 4.11 axle.
Still a beater, but a driver. The education I got from that car and all the
people and places we've seen/met are some of my most cherished
    memories.

Just so happens I'm ressurecting mine again with intentions of
making the Hamb Drags hopefully next year. Looking foward to
seeing more pics of yours as you get into it. I think an assembly
manual and a chassis manual would be money well spent as you familarize yourself with your new project.

    Here's a few of mine.

    Thank you guys!

I was curious about what was hiding under that galvanized sheetmetal and pop rivets......I will update this as much as I can, but it won't be a whole lot right away. I have to get this thing paid off at the bank first, then I can start buyin' parts.

Haha. Mines a wagon with delivery panels too. Bought that way
in 75. Dragstrip pic is from Tulsa Roadsters "Old Time Drags"
82 or 3 while I was going to school out there. Actually drug this outta the barn with full intentions of making the 06 Hamb Drags
and after a two month thrash destroyed the turbo 400 trans
in the driveway the day before I left. Ended up taking my Hudson
instead. Been dealing with rust and sheetmetal since but haven't
been able to stay dedicated on it. Hopefully will make it back to
    Mokan in 09.

(1976) First paint less than a year after I bought it.

And just so you know we're on the same page here's a pic of my
    rocker panel.

UPDATE 5-26-08: Progress has been slow last two months, sorry. Just pulled it out of the barn and into the garage this weekend and fixed more rust. Dad went through and freshened up a T-10 for it that he had sitting around. This will get the only engine I can afford. You can probably guess what that will be.

UPDATE 6-22-08: Got a couple things done last couple weeks but not as much as I hoped for. Got the front clip bolted together and built a pseudo tilt mechanism.

Thanks a lot to Tim "radical56chevy" for the quarter patch I needed. Got that welded on this weekend. I'll finish putting the rearend together and install it this week.
