Hello, I'm new, so I figured I'd start it out right with my very own build thread! I bought my 1951 Chevy coupe about three years ago. I've been building it, off and on, since then. When I bought it, it was pretty straight but had rusted out floors, and the motor was locked up.. My original plan was to get it running and build it cheap but the more i work on it, the more I want to build it.. My current plan is to build it til I'm sick of building it.. Over the past few years, i half-way documented my progress with a series of camera phones, lol sorry..
The first thing I did was gut it. It had been sitting in 'storage' for the past 30 year, according to the previous owner. It was pretty gross, seemed like the barn of my barn-find happened to be located inside the vehicle, shit everywhere.. So I gutted it and pulled the body off the frame..
When i bought this car, I was pretty broke. My plan was to get it halfass ready for bags if I ever decided to go that route.. I did move my leafs to the inside of the frame rails, which did get me pretty low but someday I do want to do a full chassis for it..
I wish I had pictures of the spring hangers I came up with but I don't, maybe ill have to crawl under there with a camera sometime.. But anyways, after putting the body back down, I was happy with the stance Put skirts on it..
I went with Fat man dropped uprights and took a coil and a half out of the front. I also put some discs on her.. I also replaced all the bushing and hardware up front Patched the firewall Painted
So when I bought the car, I wasn't really attached to the straight 6, with it locked up, I figured it was a good excuse to throw a sbc in it.. 307/th350 with 60k miles on it and I was able to drive it before it was pulled from the donor.. I threw some high temp copper on it and I'm not sure how I feel about it. I plan on breaking up the color and putting aluminum covers on it but it'll do for now..
For the tranny x-member, I wanted something removable.. Just used a little 3/16 plate and some 1.25" round tube..
Looking through these pictures now, I can't tell you how many sets of wheels and tires I've had on this thing lol.. I keep trying to luck out with a cheap set off Craig's list but i haven't found a set yet that fits right. I'm gonna have to bite the bullet and buy them new..
