Made some light boxes out of sheet aluminum that slip inside the rear stake pockets for a hidden setup.
The light boxes fit great so I attached the lenses in the stake pockets from the inside as well. Hooked up the wires and viola we have tail lights.
I cut my holy grill area for my Moon "style" tank and gave it a look see. Even using the 2 inch hole as a corner cut it still looks a little square. I might try and round them a little or leave them alone, I'll just wait and see how it sets with me. I also think some tinted headlight covers would go a long way on toning those headlights down a bit.
Added 3 qts of trans fluid after that little ride, I thought I had a really crazy converter there for a bit
Sweet - kickin a ride - sounds mean as he** - good job Phil - glad to hear it run and news about you - keep it up and drive it like ya stole it !
Thanks, I replaced the chrome dipstick tube in the transmission for one that is easier to read and doesn't leak. The next day the added fluid was on my garage floor. I also installed a new twist lock Moroso dipstick in the engine while I was dipstick happy there. After 2 days a staring at the license plate I decided on a location and drilled the holes. I went with dead nuts center on that and then jumped to 2 days of sanding the rear bumper. It looked great in the garage but has a few dark spots outside so that'll probably get painted over.
The last couple days were good, I managed to buy and barter into a set of new fenders then the next day a grill. These grills seem to be like hen's teeth and l have been looking for one for the past 20 yrs that wasn't $1000 bucks, I'm happy to get this stuff.
That looks nice. Should bolt right up... Do you have the original head lights? Sent from my XT1254 using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Nice grill and fenders. Truck looks and sounds great. Can't wait to see it. Sent from my SM-G900V using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Thanks, I'm not running the stock headlights Jeff, I sold them once I mounted the lights to the side of the hood like a 39-40. I like that look much better, it give the front fenders a wider look to match the rear fenders. It also won't just bolt up, there's nothing to attach anything too, everything has been changed to accommodate the tilt front and length of blower pulleys.
OK I'll try again, nice fenders and grille, like the color too, should be fun fabricating new mounting brackets to get it all to fit.
Had it out at the local Nostalgia Drags on Sunday, put about a mile on it and all seems ok. Getting the front end alignment on Thursday, still need that pesky windshield. Big grins all around driving this thing, I even let my buddy Bob drive it a bit too.
I waited 2 weeks for the glass guy so I took it and my pattern to another guy last Thursday. I had the truck on the trailer to get the front end aligned, so I hit the glass shop and then a cruise night at the end. I'm still hoping to get the windshield in this week, next week an inspection, then hopefully shake it down. Was bolting the new front clip together, had the drill out for every freaking hole. To say there is a little mismatch between stock and fiberglass is a little understatement. I was also devising a plan on how to cut the hood off the one piece tilt and get it on these individual pieces. Made the overflow tank mount out of a piece of rod and got that squared away, I really dig the looks of it.
Well I started the process of installing the new fenders, no easy task when there are zero reference points to go by. I got creative and made this height jig up so at least the fenders and hood would be the same height as before. With that done I put the new fenders with grill and chin bolted together in place for a trial fit, fenders flush on top of running boards. Fenders measured to low according to my jig, by about a 1/2 inch, chin was in same spot though. I raised the fenders but that brought fenders off running boards.
I split the difference at a 1/4 till I get this hood cut out of the one piece tilt, marked out and ready to cut. It's hot and humid with cutting fiberglass...yummy first trial fit, needs some off the back of the hood, the other front clip must have been forward all along took 3/4's off the back and sneaking up on it taking a break before trimming a little more off the back
Sure was, sweat was puddling in my safety glasses. I figured out that when they did the mold for my old front, they went right over the grill, that's why it's not the same shape as these new fenders. Trimmed more and locked this down, nice transition from grill to hood, next step mat/resin the gaps.
All glassed together for the most part, still needs a mount made by the upper grill. I'm ready for a test fit as soon as I get a hand to lift it on, also will cut the fenders to clear cowl once it's in place. (In progress photos) Glass guy came by Saturday with half the windshield cut for a test fit, hopefully he comes back soon for the install.
Thanks Jeff but I should have it taken care of by then but you are more than welcome to stop by. I'm bringing the Henry J home tomorrow and getting help with that, I'll get one of those guys to help stick it on.
Got my front and rear glass after a 5 week ordeal, glad that's behind me ! I also was pulling a string to line up the hood line to door line properly and marking for the tilt hinge assembly. I'll make a conduit frame work much like I did with the Henry J.
