Projects My 36 ford project. Or how to ruin a perfectly good car

Discussion in 'Traditional Hot Rods' started by the man, Mar 30, 2014.

  1. Here's a car I did a few years ago. I kinda missed the mark on the shape a little. The metalwork was okay. I had planned on redoing the back end at some point. I had so many people offer to buy it I eventually let it go. I really regretted it. Some how it turned into this. This was my daily driver for year.

  2. ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1403570444.906276.jpg my decklid is coming together. Needs a lot more fit and finish. but so far I like it. It's amazing to me how fast Metal rusts when you sweat on it.

With the pics of your previous conversion, I can see why you had offers to buy it.

Been working on getting my deck with fitting correctly last few days. Josh over at true metal shaping makes decklid skins for 600 bucks. I really wish I would have bought one. It's funny the panel that would seem to be the easiest to make really turns out to be the hardest.

Been working on the back panel for the interior. I wanted the lip in the doors to follow all the way around the back area. That way the upholstery would have a nice finished edge. I don't really like the way stock roadsters look with that big heavy lip on the back for the top. This will have nice finished edge when the roof is off. Main reason why wanted to build a Carson top.

I borrowed my buddy's stock one so I could line things up. Even bent it fits better than mine. Also had to compleatly rework my raidiator mounts to get it all right. I'm much happier with it. Sorry no pic. I think I will look for a stock grill or build a new one from scratch.

Haven't got a whole lot done it the last few weeks. I'm a Hvac guy in Texas. Been a little busy lately. I did get my hood and grill all lined up and my jams cleaned up. I'm going to start sand blasting and prime everything

  21. Damn! Just jumped on, and it shot me to the last page.....couldn't bear to read all until I told you how badass you are for your last project 4 door transformation. An HVAC guy in Texas knows how to use tin snips, duct dum dum, and coil solder......need to update your resume' pal.....because no mere HVAC guy in Texas that I know.....can do the amazing shit you did with that last one. That is just stellar. Now I am ready to read the first 4 pages. Thanks for listening !! Move along.......

  22. Wow. Soooooooo.........an HVAC guy from Texas. Sounds good enough to me. You're hired. Come to work Monday please. Free coffee, and two hour lunch breaks.....beer thirty comes early. It's beyond me where you guys come from. This site never ceases to amaze me. The talent, vision, and gumption to see things thru is clearly unrivaled. You my friend are something else. Keep kicking ass.......you had me at hello.

Awesome build. When I saw the first pictures in the thread I wasn't really sure where this was going, but man it's coming out great!

Others have used up most of the compliments known to man; so, I can only say, Amen! My only suggestion is that I would like to have seen the Instruments Frenched, just a tad; perhaps using a similar set-up like you used on the inner panel for the deck lid. Right now, they're like fried eggs ready to slide off the dash, so to speak. The horn cover used as a speaker grill is most cool, though. I'm going to steal that idea, as they would also work great for Air Conditioning outlet covers. The upper door hinges are the perfect place for some kick ass mirrors, too. And, initially, I thought it would have a Speedboat/Duvall windscreen. It took me a while to come around to the one you came up with, that will certainly work better with a Carson style lid. I'm gushing over this one because '36 Roadsters are at the top of my list for topless rides. And, just 'cause everyone wishes you Good Luck, don't mean I can't either. The hardest part is gonna be holdin' on to it; 'cause ever'one of us wishes it was bein' built for us.
