The grille emblem is going to flush mounted so, a backer plate was made, seen behind the emblem. A hole will be cut in the grille and the backer plate will be welded behind shell where the emblem sets flush.
The roof is comming along too. If you remember the total cab stretch is 10 inches (4" in the cab, 6" in the door) so the roof has a 10" strip welded in. It's still a little rough but, it has to get done so it can be mounted to set the spacing between the the front and rear door jams. Once the roof is finished, it will be mounted to the front & rear cab sections so the doors can be fitted.
Thanks Andy, meens alot comming from you. I see you'll be in Detroit Autorama in February?? My wifes brother lives in Detroit and we usally go so, we'll see you there.
Aww, shucks... Seriously, this truck is going to be WAY, way nicer than mine was. Yep, that's the plan, see you there!!
Just for fun and perspective...here's my '34 from 1960. '48 flathead, '39 trans., 4:11 banjo I paid $125 for it and drove it home!
Moving on to the fuel tank, you can see the stainless tank is tack welded. On the top there is a hole for the fuel level sender (center) and red markings (right) for the filler spout. On the front of the tank you can see three threaded ports, one for the fuel pump/pickup (left) and two (bottom) for the crossover tube. It needs finish welding and pressure testing.
One of the things that I am most pleased with is how the bed floor turned out. Check it out!!! I wanted it to be like a modern pickup bed.
Only a few more things on the bed and it will be done, finally. Here are several more photos. If you look close you can see a small area to the rear of the bed just under the floor. I have an idea up my sleeve but, you’ll have to wait.
Cool build! What was used for the bed floor? I'm curious to see what you have planned for under the bed floor in the rear. I have had an idea in my head for years - lessee if they match.
Here you can see a plate mounted where normally the dash panel would be. Its going to be a backer plate for a custom dash so it will be removable. The idea is to graph in a completely customized dash from a 58 impala. The 58 dash in these photos show the original dash with the instrument cluster backer welded in. Also, the area where the steering column was has been patched.
Man you do nice work,I love the bed,I'm thinking a back compartmant with a hidden door under the back of your bed. Here's a pic of my buddies 33 that he streched, all steel with with a rear roll down window.
Love the truck. My original thought was to stretch the cab and add a window just like the photo but, changed my mind after talking to several folks.
