Hot Rods My '31 coupe.Part 2. Road Trip to LSRU!!

Mine, John and Beth's '29, Ward's '30 w/ 6x2 409, Ralph n Linda's '30 w/ a blown hemi. Tony's blown Rocket.

 

Woke to pouring rain in Knoxville, so cleaned and picked up a few things at the mall next door. Sun came out in the afternoon, so went to Barillaros Speed shop and checked out their stuff, Very cool Y-block coupe taking shape there. Took a little side trip out in the country to Mike's place. I got to meet @garage2small, I liked that. Gary I hope all is well. Very scenic country , we liked it a lot.

 

After our cruise , my son and I walked down to the Smoky Mtn. Brewery and had a burger and some local brews. Both received a hearty burp and thumbs-up. Got back and tucked the cars in for the night.

I watched it come together, its a piece to be proud of.

 

We did about 500 a day, we stopped on the way. -ie. Bass's shop and other places, so we weren't messin around. . We did 682 on our last day coming home. We had an issue with a trailer spring/tire in La. and that held us up for a while. That's a long day, my ass was tired, lol

 

Next day saw us in Shreveport, La. Went down to Crawdaddy's and ate plates of crawdads, alligator, catfish and hush puppies!

Next morning we put some extra leaves in my car then off to Tx to Brian Bass's shop. Looked around for just a minute as Brian had a plane to catch. Holy Cow what a treasure trove of cool parts and cars! Bobby Hilton had to get some pieces parts there then we headed to Austin.

 

Thurs morning we unloaded Hiltons groovy cool east-coast style coupe. Bob and Chris and their beautiful blown Nailhead coupe appeared. This was another Hilton/Lombardi build. This car got kind of a bum rap for its color online, but in person it's very attractive. Met up with Wex65 (Gentleman's Coupe) and the owners of the pearl/ teal sedan. Also John brought over the super cool Gratton & Edge chevy pickup, complete with one lunger Harley! All great people! Cleaned the road grime off the cars, Then off to the BBQ!

Sweet car and Grady isn't afraid of the gas pedal. The video of him exiting the LSRU BBQ is something to behold...!

Sounds like a trip of a lifetime! Just curious, what were you getting for fuel mileage with the Lincoln?

 

So we made it to the BBQ where I met a bunch more cool people and checked out their cool cars.

 

The car show at the hotel we stayed at was great.

 

Austin Speed Shop Party!!! I met a bunch more people here, it was a pretty happening deal, lots of cool projects. It was crowded but @DanGreenberg has some good pics.

 

Fri. and Sat. we were at LSRU, Holy Cow! What an event! Cars/Bands/Cars/Vendors/Cars/Swap meet/ and did I mention CARS ? Every shape, size, color and age. TomDavison took this gem of the Hilton/Lombardi gang:

Swap meet, Bands, vendors, artists. I talked to a ton of creative people, very enjoyable. Talked to @HotRodJen for a while- found out she got married in Wyoming, so I consider her a homegirl now, lol

 

El Hueso- If we were able to stay steady in the 70-80 mph range I actually got 14mpg a couple times. Usually it was more like 12 and about 10 in stop/go town driving. With a brand new engine and no real fine-tuning I was very happy with it all things considered.

 

Couldn't be a better shake down for the car, cool! How about some video of that Lincoln running?

 

Unfortunately our phone mics would just fuzz out as soon as I started the car. My son got a pretty fair in-car video with his camera when we left the bbq. I can't get it to load on here. It's on my instagram: @turnpikecruiser31 Hopefully some others will surface. You need headphones turned to 11 to approximate the vol. level. It's reeeally loud. I just rolled into it and it flutters a little til it started breathing good then it just smoked the tires, lol. 2nd gear is kind of the same thing. It's a very large amount of fun!
