Clayton, The "T" is looking "bad to the bone !". It will omly be better when I can see it at Bonneville. Looking forward to seeing your Roadster and the Speedster.

    *UPDATE*
    More and more wiring....

Made some more good progress. Got the fuel pump mounted, the under hood wire loom made up and the ignition system/fuel pump wired up.

    Hidden under the hood shelves..

The old style Cross-Courtney connectors wouldn't fit the newer terminals, so I had to use modern crimp-style connections. To dress them and give them the vintage look...I wrapped them in the cord and doped them..

By the end of the day...we had a working electrical system...

Chris also got the wire wheels painted...

    He did great work :D

    Stay tuned!

    Clayton,
You noted that you dopped the cord you wrapped around the modren connectors. What did you use epoxy, shallac, super glue?
She's Looking real good it will not be long now till your back on the road.

    Thanks Rusty! :D

A Model A chassis is a useable option and good, strong platform to build on. I stuck with the T chassis because I had one and for me...it was personal preference. T frames and drivetrain components are plenty strong and easy to come by...plus, that little T engine is what makes a T a "T" in my opinion :)

Thanks for the support as always Dave. You have always offered great compliments and support since day one....Chris and I appreciate every bit of it.

I just used Testor's Glosscote Lacquer..simple hobby coating lacquer. You should be able to find it at your local hobby shop. Good old fashioned aircraft "dope" also works...and most likely would have been used in the old days.

    Clayton, Thanks for the comment.

    I have been failing miserably elsewhere . . . . . Make me wonder some time . . . .

Love the cord wrapped wiring terminals. The little details are what make this car what it is!

Indeed, and what's really impressive is that he's trying to make a deadline. How many of us would just be putting things together as fast as possible, promising ourselves that we'd re-do it "right" later on?

Thanks! I thought it would be a nice touch...and nice way to cover up those ugly crimp-on connectors.

That is EXACTLY why. The first go around, this car was built on that "Let's rush it together ASAP...but I'll re-do it right later"...and it showed.

This time around, I swore that I would "Do it right, or not at all"...and I have maintained that. I don't want to do this Chassis again..as I have other projects to move on to :D

Clayton hasn't noticed yet, but Henry and his friend Tom Edison stand over his bed at night and glare at him for defiling Lizzie with alternating current.

...A sacrifice I was willing to make for the sake of a WORKING charging system this time around. I want this "new" car to be self-sustaining (save for fuel of course).

Eventually it will get a cover to make it look like a generator.

...and Dave, your comment made me laugh out loud :D

I have grown tired of having to charge the battery before every-other trip. The original generator just didn't have the output for a 12v coil ignition system.

Don't worry...I'll hide it and make it "work" :D

Doesn't someone make a fake alternator that looks like an oh-so-correct yet worthless generator? Gary

Powermaster makes a faux-generator alternator that fits the bill, but it's styled after later generators and is intended to be belt driven. I think (and I know Clayton will correct me if I'm wrong) Model T generators are gear-driven, though, so it wouldn't be a direct replacement.

Too bad T generators are so crummy. The generator on my Falcon has given me good service thus far.

I believe there are a few companies that are making "Genernators", but they don't make such a product for a T...that I know of. I could run a belt drive setup with a "genernator" built for a Model A perhaps...but I do like the direct gear drive setup.

You are also correct about the Model T generators Dave. The Model T generators do work, they just don't have enough output for a system like this. They are a "trickle charge" unit that was designed to keep the battery up while the motor was running off the mag.

Clayton, Looking like you are still making some good progress on you "T". Would like to be there when you light the fuse to that Mill ! Bet your smile might be a new record for Ripley's ! Will stay tuned as you make further progress.

  22. There are some mini alternators that will just about slip into a generator :)

True, but I just don't have the time now before Bonneville to design and machine up a custom mini in a T generator case unfortunately.

...I will put this on the "to do" list for after Bonneville :D

One thing to watch when "hiding" the alternator is heat. Simply covering in sheetmetal may look good but it will not last long. The coils in the alternator get toasty when doing it's job good airflow is the only thing that cools those coils. Some of the early gear driven alternators sold had this issue because the adapters covered some of the intake ports on the front of the units.

Things will be looking salty pretty soon. :D

Great progress. One of the sweetest Ts just keeps getting sweeter.

I barely notice the alternator in there. It's so dang practical, I wouldn't sweat it at all.

Agreed :D Its just getting to that point is taking a bit longer then I had hoped...or intended. Still waiting on as few parts to complete the fuel system and plumb the carbs.

This is something I was worried about myself. If I do go that route...I would do my best to keep it cool. The cover would most likely be punched for air ventilation.

..either way, a cover for that thing is the LEAST of my worries right now.

Thanks Gary! :D I'm not out of the woods yet, but I know I will be adding some "salt" soon...

Please tell me your going to add NOS to it  you are going to the salt with her.

At this point if you can live with it....others may grumble but the will except it in the end.

No, no NOS :D....just driving it to Bonneville this year for speed week. I'm not going to race it, just gonna spectate.

..that is what this whole rebuild was for and why I'm rushing to get it done.
