here's a pic.
Had to be in the late 70`s for that money.
I'll double that!!! About 35 years ago I told a couple of hardcore Ford racers/friends of mine, about a "40's" Willys Coupe body shell sitting in an overgrow lot in DOWNTOWN Everett, Wa. They did't really believe me, but one of them went to look at it, while people from a rundown apartment building were watching them very closely. One of them came down, approached my friend, and asked what he wanted. He "claimed" to be the owner, and would let them take it for $20.00! They loaded it into the back of his pickup truck, gave the guy the $20.00, and built himself a BBF powered Gasser. This is absolutely true, even as far out there as it sounds. He's the same guy I've posted on here in the past, that got an old "40's" Willys pickup frame out of the old Ray's Auto Wrecking. The only way to get it out of the wrecking yard was to take a fence down, remove the frame/cab, and reassemble the fence; there was no other way to get it out, other than maybe use a helicopter, there was too much stuff in the way, and Ray was't going to move it all for a few dollars. It's the frame he used under the coupe. Should have snagged the stuff for myself. Lost track of the guy shortly afterwards. Butch/56sedandelivery.
well it's photo of a picture, clearly from the early 80's
Yeah, the Toyota in the back ground appears to be a new truck at the time of the photo,,,come on whats the story? HRP
I guessed 81
Could be a shitty phone pic..
I call BS
I don't know, it doesn't have mags on it so it can't be worth much more than that.
okay, okay! Some of you guys are too sharp. Just figured I would stir the troops, as I just found this pic. Purchased it in 1984, as a young gun in my early 20s. This is most definitely "the one that got away". Nice steel body w/org. floors and wheelwells. Glass front and I think rear fenders. Old drag car set up for early hemi and also sbc. Sold it a year later to pay for school. Sold it for $2500 and "I was wheelin and dealin". Actually had a few local Willys guys look and passed, as they wanted a better one! If I only knew then what the future held for these cars. However, I just recently heard this car is still around, and still as a project car. My older cousin knew the guy and heard from another that it's just sitting in the garage. So, the hunt is on! Think he'll sell it back for a small profit? I can dream can't I? Would like to have it sitting next to my 55, though.
Well I took these TODAY. The doors are inside, body is complete, all steel, no rot. He wants a bit more than $1.500 but I'm workin' on it.
nice find! Good luck.
And I can top that. In about '63-'64 I bought a '33 Willys cpe. body and frame for $250?? and sold it a year or two later for $350??
Bought a grill emblem last month for $150 and that has started me on parts buying spree to assemble one thats cost me $4,000....... so far. Norm
Would his name happen to be Joe?
Reminds me of a 66 Mustang Fastback in mint condition that I scored for $800. Sold it for $2900 in 1982
i'd be happy to get the toyota for $1500.
I wouldn't pay .02 cents for it!..
When I built my 33, I passed on 2 41s, one in Seattle, that had a nice frame that Magoo built, and another in Spokane. both were $2500. both decent cars! but $2500 was alot of money in 1987 and I really wanted a 33. sure wish I would have bought them and stashed them away!!! THANKS Chris
brilliant, made me smile
I missed a solid complete but original down to the 4 cyl engine 41 coupe in the early 90s for $300. About 15 years ago one was pulled out of an old salvage yard near here in three pieces and went to CT, for about $500.
Turlock swap meet 1979-80 I bought a rust free 41 coupe all steel plus all new Cal Automotive fiberglass w/ stock chassis $250.00. He delivered to my shop in Burlingame , Cali for another $35.00. Last year off of Craigslist a friend bought a 40 truck cab w/steel doors and new fiberglass front end $900.00 in San Jose, Cali. When I saw it was in Epoxy primer, looked good. He sold it two weeks later for $1500.00 less front end!!! Their still out there.
