Folks Of Interest Muncie M20 values

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Pete, Apr 22, 2017.

  1. I'm running a '64 vintage M20 with the 2.56 1st gear, decoded it and it comes up as a Vette unit. I paid $650 + $105 for the ride and I had to fix a couple of minor things on it. The older ones had no rings on the spline and the speedo exits on the driver side.

I just picked up a 1964 Gto M20 Muncie for 850.00 gears in great condition. Shipping was 160.00. But it has the original hurst shifter on it. IMG_0174.JPG IMG_0175.JPG

  3. Well we are probably going to run a sag 3 speed in a quick together project because we cant afford a Muncie, but the M 20 would be the perfect transmission for the little sneaker.

700-800 would be a good price for one and I think if it were mine that price would make 2 people happy. Me and the buyer.

shipping would kill us both ( me more than you) but if I were closer I would offer you my B&M hydro in trade. LOL :D

The guy that sponsored my racecar transmission put an M-20 together for my 67 Nova SS in 1984, cost me $250, those days will never be revisited. Only been driven about 100 miles since built.
This car absolutely requires the tailhousing with the pass side speedo, this also has the extra bosses for the shifter to mount farther forward where the speedo outlet is on other GM cars.

  6. I believe the passenger side speedo is offered '67 and up. I'm used to being wrong though. My tail shaft housing is matched to my trans, which is a '64 unit.

The SS Nova in 66 (Muncie) and 67 (Saginaw) required a very special shifter so the handle could exit the console correctly and contrary to popular belief, Muncies were not used in 67 Novas originally.
Next to impossible to find a complete one nowadays, when they do show up they are quite pricey, here's the Muncie shifter I have stashed away for my 67 as I'm using a Hurst now.
The shift rods are the shortest of any GM four speed shifter, note the reverse rod.

Can you provide a pic of the shifter mount? That's very close to how my 56 is set up via home built mount and rods so as to not to cut the floor any further from where a universal 3 speed floor shifter came out.

If you're talking four speed, that seems like an odd way to approach it.
When I took the Fenton shifted three speed out of my high school 57 and put a T-10 in I used the Hurst "C" shifter designed to clear the bench seat, couldn't be easier, anyway hope this helps.

Have you seen some of my post's. I'm out there no doubt about that. I just made it come out the same hole because the bench clears just fine. The photo also confirms for me that the speedo cable comes out the other side as I suspected. I have one set up that way as well.
