I am moving to Missouri from California today. The car is shrink wrapped and ready to go. I hope there’s some good car events that make it worth taking it.

Any events you guys recommend? Any clubs?

I’ll bring good weather if you guys will get rid of the damn salt on the roads!

There's a lot of car culture in Mo. It's not SoCal, but we do find plenty to do.

This is a good way to meet like-minded souls... http://www.hotrodhundred.com

I just moved to St Louis too, half done moving my workshop up there. First day, 67 Pontiac Bonneville's mellow rumble woke me up, neighbor had a visitor. He showed me his 68 SS396 and made me feel welcome. If you are into bikes go to Flying Tiger, Donelson's, or the Triumph eatery downtown.

The Midwest is great hot rod country. With your roadster I would absolutely, and I mean absolutely, make it to the Frog Follies in Evansville, IN the last full weekend in Aug. Limited to pre-48 cars. Generally has 4,000 to 4,500 cars. Nationals in Louisville in early Aug. 9-10,000 cars. All kinds of smaller shows. Generally, you will have to chose from several every weekend. I moved from St. Louis to Indy about 10 years ago but still maintain lots of friends in the St. Louis area. Send me a PM and I can give you more info.

  10. If you have a nice paint job - you might want to remove the shrink wrap - all it does is rub off the paint.

The Easter show at Forest Park gets things started off for the year! I've been when it's 25 out and I've also been when it's 75. Welcome to Missouri!!!

Great shrink wrap! We use a little on visor-header if trailering Model A's with original roof, anything over 50mph & the air under visor & front glass likes to "balloon" the older original tops.
I think you got plenty of wrap!!!
Have fun in MO!! Most hot rodders tend to find their way around, plenty of people will likely stop you (Maybe more than some would like).

Thanks Jim. I have a soft car cover between the wrap and the car. Hopefully that will protect the finish. My goal is to not pick up as much road gunk along the way.

Safe travels! Keep an eye on your Hot Rod and rig while traveling. Hopefully you can park in a secure area or crash in the truck and stay with it.

  20. WARNING!
    DANGER!

    SALT KILLS.
You will be entering the Rust Belt .
Where even late mode cars have holes in them.
Where thick BUMPERS can rust completely through.
When temps are expected to get down to freezing, dry roads are sprayed with a salty brine mix, wet or snowey roads are loaded with super corrosive salt. Hide your good cars.
Summers have an unbearable 90 to 100 percent humidity that keeps things from drying well, and turns metal brown almost instantly, and of course- winters have salt salt salt everywhere.
That being said, you will have great places to tour, fish, explore, tube down rivers, hunt, etc but you sacrifice your cars lifespan.

    WHY BE ORDINARY ?

couldnt have said it better myself. when i see new cars that cost gobs of money all covered with salt i wonder why anyone would do that to they're investment. bad enough how they depreciate, but then its like driving it into the ocean too. i drive a rotten rusty honda all winter, same car for 18 years. i drive the same car, 91 civic, same color, in the summer, but that one is from arizona and will never see salt as long as i own it. works for me, but i am goofy and dont care what anyone thinks about what i'm driving. no payments allows me to have expensive toys instead of a rusting bank loan

Well you won't be disappointed with the Midwest there are plenty of car events throughout the area in the nice weather times. People are friendly and always ready to lend a helping hand. Good luck you will enjoy the area.

    Those events are overrated! LOL

Actually, the StL Hot Rod Hundred is a featured event in the latest Rodding USA magazine. I had a blast running around with Dennis Parks, shooting the coverage for the story.

Hey, yes I decided I just had too much going on at the time. Our move was very complicated. And I decided I couldn’t rush and make a good decision. Sorry to leave you hanging. : )
