Thank you. I haven’t seen this. My first exposure to the drags…yes Dragway 42 in 1969, I was 16 and drove my 1959 Ford station wagon with a few friends. On the way home I thought I had a hot rod and received a speeding ticket doing 80 mph. Lost my license. For three months. I miss that old wagon. That’s my 52 year anniversary bride and me on the right.
Man, I have been to West Salem for work multiple times and have been told I need to go to Dragway 42. Thanks for the reminder so I can be sure to plan my next trip appropriately.
I saw my 1st NHRA event there , Final round Top fuel race was Big Daddy Don Garlits versus 'Export A" mid late 70s
Hello, I just happened to be reading some Midwest Drag Racing News looking for some speed and E.T. times for another story. So, this popped out in a full page ad for a Stock car Invitational at Dragway 42 in Ohio, during 1963. On the next paragraph was another surprise: Another All Star drag race on the 4th of July, 1963. But, wait, that was not the topper: the very next day on July 5, 6, 7, there was another drag race event: Jnaki So, I jumped up to the results version and here it is: Action In The Midwest…YRMV
I remember going there to watch as a high schooler in the '60s. The strip (actually there were two strips - side-by-side, one for "hot cars" and one for stockers) ran south-to-north. After a total reconstruction and reconfiguration they now run north-to-south, and we have raced there in recent years. Great facility; it was recently purchased by the owners of IHRA. Fun memories. I may return to race again soon. Was that Dave Koffel's Flintstone Flyer Packard gasser at the beginning? He's still active in drag racing too.
What a cool look at this old footage, so cool of you to share! I thought I recognized the Flintstone Flyer! Thanx bro!/
