Today was just one of those days... the kinda day that you're out in the garage thinking 'what the fuck am i doing with this hunk of shit in my work space?' my 56 oldsmobile project is really fighting me. and today the car was beating me badly. i refuse to give up, but sometimes i suppose its just a part of the trade. so, i finished up what little i had got done, turned off the lights and decided to walk away for the day. came home, and started flipping through my little books for inspiration and motivation. what do you guys do when you lack the motivation on your projects? id like to know...
At any given time, i have at least 10 projects going on. My cars, bike, friends stuff, my house etc. So what I do is walk away from what I am frustrated with and pick up on another. I find that a good long ride on my bike helps to clear the air. I like to go down the not so busy highways at night, very peacefull.
I like to stay at home and watch Brazzers videos all day. P.S. to any of those wondering this is Max's Olds...
I was at a friends shop today and he was fighting the same problem. His cure was to mark a 12 x 12 section on the quarter and just concentrate on that small area for the day. If you're looking to do everything at once it can get the best of you.
I just remind myself that I am probably going to die some day and I probably wont get to finish it after that.
you know the sad thing is....that^ is way more complete than my olds....jesus thats sad.... p.s. fuck you mitch. hahaha
Two words... Lancelot Link Secret Chimp If there's better motivation than monkeys dressed in people clothes, I haven't seen it.
i go inside the house take a piss and leave the toilet seat up,wait 5 seconds, hear my wife nag and bitch at me for it and that makesme go back outside and i have no choice but to work on my pos truck, if that dont work i drive my wifes matrix so it makes me feel a little less manly and when i see all the other drivers dont respect anyone driving a little matrix it makes me want to work on my truck so i can drive it again and recoup my balls.
Those teeth look great. I got to steal that idea some day. My cure for the rod building doldrums is to watch a video like 'The Road To Bonneville', or something similar. Or browse other peoples build threads.
for me its got to come natural, cant force it, just keep at it with a goal in mind thats achievable, and stick with it.
35 years ago I beat myself and the truck up on a regular basis and we both have the scars to show for it. Too many 16 hour days trying to get it done to go somewhere to and event and it never did get done right. I haven't got much done in the past six weeks because I dislocated my shoulder and old farts don't seem to recover as fast as guys half our age. On the other hand I have spent many hours in the past six weeks in the planning stages and pretty well have the thing figured out. Now I just need to feel good enough to get out there and cut things up and put them back together a bit different than they were before. For me fresh motivation comes from several different directions. From hitting a rod trot, going to the Roadster show or another show in the winter, seeing what someone else has done that sparks the energy to get out and and get in some real productive work.
I work in a restoration/rod shop so working on my stuff after dinner isn't something I get motivated to do often. I really don't finish many projects, run out of funds or motivation, or something more urgent turns up. The house reroofing took my car funds this summer along with spair time. To me every advance on a car project comes in $300. steps, and it is very easy to loose focus on one part of the build and spend some money on something that comes up and can't be passed on. I'd really like some '32 frame rails, but know I need to get the body done and in primer first. Just this afternoon I got a lead on a good daily driver for short money, so that may slow down progress even more. It is a hobby, and there is no punishment if the projects aren't finished in your lifetime.
The yard work and the honeydew list keeps me out in the shop,,,,,I hate that stuff. Really I just have to roll up my sleeves and go to work anyways. It's kind of like Monday mournings.
On the beam in the shop is written, "What did you accomplish today?".That usually gets the fires burnin. Its either that or go do honey-do list stuff.Hahaha, nope be in the shop with a pabst.LB
Haha, that's funny... I do the same thing. You never know how long you've got left, better make the most of it!
lower your expectations I find that I have just got to force myself to do some projects and it is real hard to get started on them got a wiring, relays dissasembly and reassembly job to start on again tomorrow and it has to be done friday to get cleaned for weekend shows, i dont really want to do it, BUTgotta force myself
