    Go north around Rochester or Rochester Hills.......don't ask how I know.....just do it.

Lots of fantastic hotels downtown....Whitney building, Book Cadillac, Marriot...I have lived here my whole life and can honestly say I haven't seen the city ( downtown) in the state it is on now..they can't build luxury condos and apartments fast enough, amazing restaurants, my Family is downtown all the time and have had zero issues or felt unsafe....now going into the neighborhoods..that's another story

    no but on a real note, I believe most people stay at the Marriott (at least I think its the marriott) right accross the street from cobo. I feel like that one will be the best bang for your buck. Avoid the neighborhoods. Everything is shit until you go north of 8 mile
