A friend approached me about selling his 1958 Morris Minor 1000. I quizzed the posts here and found very little information about these cars. This car has been stored somewhat inside fir the last twenty years. Is there a market for these cars? Or are they a white elephant? I included a few pics of the car. Thanks ,

People in England buy them ... better off advertising on an English car page than here.

  6. I drove an older one for two years downunder. Great "little" car before there were any small care made here. You can have fun with that.

I know a cat who has the worlds fastest black primered, small block powered Morris Minor. Fast as hell.

  11. to answer the question asked... Yes it's a white elephant. Unless you get it dirt cheap, be prepared to sit on it for a very long time. everybody will tell you they make cool little drag cars, but those same people will keep their cash in their pockets. you're going to be looking at a 1% buyers market. I've owned a few, and found buyers to be even tighter fisted than old hotrodders. It's one of those cars where even if it's perfect it's still a project.

Bought one on Summer Vacation 1977 Yorkshire England. I was 15 yrs old payed 20 pounds for it . Drove it from the used car lot down the street to my Uncles garage...He was not amused by his 15 yr old American Nephew driving on English roads. My Uncle also had a scrap yard and I robbed a twin SU intake set up off an MG and put it on the Morris, That all worked great until the brakes failed and I ran it into a wall in front of his shop. It ended up at his scrap yard but it was a great experience and I still love those little cars.:D

Title? Does the engine turn over? Have you looked underneath? Morris invented rust and licensed it to Fiat... If the sills are shot (2-1 odds), it'll take forever to sell. Floors are almost certainly rusty, but restorers assume that on Minors this old. Can't tell about how much of the interior is left. Not sure why half of the chrome was painted over, but I can guess. A '63 in better shape, but still needing a fair amount of work sold on eBay recently for $1500. Anything over $500 probably isn't worth your while.

I have bought 2 1958 Morris Minors in the past 8 years and both had the floors rotted out but had perfect bodies. The last one had the suspension mounting points rusted out.
So I built chassis's for them and put small block Fords in them. Fatman sells a chassis for 7 grand . I built mine for less than 300 bucks worth of steel.
I paid a grand for the one's I bought . Neither of them had a motor or transmission, but I didn't care.
The last one I bought I sold $ 400 of parts from it.
Mine looked like this when done. One street car, one SEGA car. 20170513_132731.jpg DSCF0955.JPG DSCF3572.JPG DSCF0954.JPG

  24. Flamedabone posted a photo of my brother's Morris on the salt at Bonneville. The floors were gone when my brother bought that car.....a 1961. We welded in new 1/8th inch inner rockers with pick up points and I welded up a chassis from 2X4 box tubing, stepped front and back. He built a 406 sbc with a 'glide and an 8 and 3/4 mopar rear axle, narrowed with shortened axles by Moser. He drove it on the street and raced it...went 10.32. Was a fast little street car but there's not a lot of room in one. scottymorrischassis.jpg Scotty's morris on 6th street..JPG

I picked mine up on Tuesday. It's a project to say the least. The floors, suspension and drive train are toast, although the body is decent. I really like what southcross2631 has done with his streetcar. That seems to be the direction I am leaning with mine. I also thought that since mine is a convertible that I might as well leave the top off, cut the window structure out and call it a "mini Tub".

The engine is setting in his shop, supposed to have been overhauled? It has been in covered storage for the last twenty years or so. I haven looked under it, the interior is there but I could see some bad spots, looking through the windows. No title. . Came from California direct to my buddies shop. Spare tire in trunk. Paint has a rough texture, kinda odd.

Bones if you want to go fast on the cheap do it light. A 2000 lb with 200 hp is as fast as a 4000 lb car with 400 hp and break less stuff. Think how fast it would be with that 351 Clevor.

Interesting little cars for their time but I don't see it as a real money maker. If you make a hot rod out of it you can plan on spending plenty of money and I wouldn't expect to get it back when you sell it, IMHO. I just bought a MM woody and I'll be pretty upside down by the time it's done. I guess I'll just drive it 'til I can't.
