Was just reading the thread about Jegs being sold. That's just following a line of performance companies selling & some closing. Holley has bought some major players including Detroit Speed along with many old names in performance : Mallory, MSD, etc. I see Vintage Air has also sold recently. My orders are back 16 + weeks now. All the electronics sitting on a freighter in the Pacific isn't helping anything. Another great company (Dales) has said because of increased costs, all pricing is at retail. It's all going up y'all. A good radiator costs $1000 ! A friend who is a general manager at a major performance warehouse told me the internet is hurting their bottom line (ya recon ?) We ordered Dakota Digital gages, 4 months ago. First all our magazines , now all the good, reliable performance companies. At least our friends that sold out & moved on are drinking rum drinks on a beach somewhere....hopefully.
Took my last chassis order in August and haven't looked back. I've been waiting on tires since August, Radiator since Sept. Hood a couple months. Wheels will take a few months. I've still been able to keep my T5 kits going and my 409 water pump kit going. Everything price wise is going thru the roof making it very difficult for a small company like mine to compete. I'll just fade away into the sunset in a few years and my company name will disappear.
Your company and mine will never fade away , some guys will always remember how & where they got treated fairly & that we among the few, really knew what we were talking about. I actually miss my customers I had at my shop in Norfolk, Va. & especially the dozens of years I supported the NSRA at their national & regional events. Nothing will ever be like the 80's -2000's. When I started in 1978 I had no idea what was to come as I'm sure did you. I build a few chassis & some hot rod repairs but now to old for another turn key....unless just one more of mine, right ? Yep & shit just costs too much...Stay safe out there y'all. the Flatlander in NC now.
Craps bad. My grandparents lived through worse. aint nuthin we can do but keep living. bang on old cars hang out with friends joke about it roll with the punches. Keep on trucking. (I sound like Joe Dirt)
I guess that I am lucky, I ordered 4 American Racing wheels for the '48 from a local tire store and had them delivered and mounted the next day.
After three heart attacks and a brain bleed, every day is a blessing! You sound like someone I'd enjoy hanging out with!
Well, I don’t drink. God blessed me with a built in chemical imbalance. Saves money for buying junk. My hobbies are cars as is my job. No hunting and rarely fish. Boring as heck but a jolly fat grey haired dirty fingernailed clown.
Finish working on a 46 Ford Pickup for a 24-year-old guy. The younger generation building old trucks is a good thing. He has an engineer degree and works for GM. Did some seats on a 70 Olds W-30 for a kid in collage a couple weeks. ago. The car went thru a flood. A bad flood. The kid worked on it for 6 moths straight. A different motor with a rebuilt tranny. The rest of the car, he cleaned up and is driving it now.
He is! Had the pleasure to hang with Anthony a few times, he's the real deal! Hope to catch up with him again this summer sometime.
Stop bleating about gas prices , here in NZ according (probably wrong ,,,again) but our equivalent to a US gallon and taking into account the exchange rate is hovering around US $7.75 a US gallon. The govt takes a disproportionate amount of tax from this for roading , our roads are crap . Sorry rant over , now get back on topic. Basically we are hovering at NZ $3.00 litre and rising every few days.
