Buford36, Thank you very much for posting these. I notice in image 63 of 144 is a 5 window coupe with what appears to be a 4 bar linkage setup on the front suspension. I didnt think this type of front suspension was put on hot rods until early 70's. I believe the same car is shown in photo 62 as well. Very cool coupe!

The Blown Hearse , pic 139, is that car being restored? I heard it still exists. Used to see it run at Dover all the time. Blown 348 Chev as I remember.

  17. Very cool!
Nice to see some East Coast drags history.
My Dad has told me the story several times of him and his buddies sitting around one Saturday Night at the Tenefly Diner in Tenefly N.J....."whatcha wanna do"..."I dunno, what do YOU wanna do?"......"Lets go to the drags in Sanford!....Meet back here in a couple hours!"
So they left around 9 or 10 that night and drove 300+ miles to run the next day. Jimmy L. won his class in his blown Y-block powered, stock bodied '34 4-Door sleeper. Jack R. got all the way to the finals with his J-2 powered '50 Olds with a LeSalle transmission. He had rarely ever lost, but got nervous this time and started out in first instead of second and smoked the tires.

I started going to Sanford in the early 60s with my father and there are a lot of cars I recall. In fact I was there the day "Big Daddy' ran. I attended a lot of events there and raced my own car and won my class in 67... I had a ton of pics & 8 mm home movies but let someone borrow the pics and he died and they can't be located. I still have the 8mm movies that I may covert to CD if I get bored LOL..
